Make a ground, wall, and a ceiling

Hi, I'm looking for a way to make walls and a ground, because for my next project, I want to make a Super Mario Brothers kind of thing. Anyone have suggestions?

Look at similar projects?
For example, I downloaded JIM13243's Bounce! precisely to study how platform games are made.

Archmage has done a lot of projects with platform games and scrollers (as have many others).  I'd check out out some of his stuff, like maybe this one http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/archmage/28903
