i agree with you on the Percy jackson, and the movie thing, it said nothing about his prophecy and had some mistakes with the characters

WoT would probably be a little mature for an 11 year old. I'd recommend Ender's Game.

One of the greatest sci-fi books of all times. I thoroughly enjoyed it and find myself desperately wanting to re-read it now.
Ender's Game:
Another great sci-fi series. I also like the sequel Speaker for the Dead although I didn't like Xenocide or Children of the Mind as much (Note: I never finished Children of the Mind)
Wheel of TIme:
One of the greatest fantasy series of all time. Although the later books can be drags at time and RJ could consider being more concise 
Belgeriad:
Essentially the WoT in a different setting with slightly different characters on a smaller scale.

It seems like you have read my mind. The first 3 are all great books. I am re-reading WoT from the begining, and am currently on Book 7. I like the fact that he isn't concise. Makes it so I can't plow through the series in a week.

Yeah I'm loving WoT. I'm reading it for the first time, I'm on book 9 (after skipping all the Perrin in it to get the Mat, I'm almost done. I'll go back and back-fill later >.>)

Belgariad is quite good    It approaches magic from interesting way (kinda like Newton's 3rd law, every magical action has an equal and opposite reaction) and in my opinion it is one of the best Sword and Sorcery series out there (although I haven't read that many so it's not really my place). Author is David Eddings here are the books from amazon:

Eh, his ideas were good, but he isn't that great of an author.  Too many exclamation marks and stuff.

It's a good book, but I did get sick of the exclamation marks every few sentences.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Great book, but a lot of younger users probably won't get a good read out of it.

Tie between Lord of the Rings, His Dark Materials, and the Ender's Game series, although I am reading Frank Herbert's Dune and loving it.

not meaning to BRAG (:3) but i read all (about 21)but the latest book in the series (The Sable Quean) cuz i had to return it to teh library too soon >.< lol.
