I have read them. They are okay, not my favorite.

you should read them both though, because the messenger has the character from gathering blue as well. and they are fairly short books anyways so it shouldn't be hard to read gathering blue before the messenger

You should definitely read Gathering Blue. It's a great book and while The Giver isn't directly related to Gathering Blue, The Messenger connects them.

i agree with you on the Percy jackson, and the movie thing, it said nothing about his prophecy and had some mistakes with the characters

It seems like you have read my mind. The first 3 are all great books. I am re-reading WoT from the begining, and am currently on Book 7. I like the fact that he isn't concise. Makes it so I can't plow through the series in a week.![]()
Is Belgeriad that good? I haven't found many good Fantasy series lately, and I have been wanting to. Whats the authors name?I haven't read any of them. Which one would be best for an 11 year old?
Probably WoT
WoT would probably be a little mature for an 11 year old. I'd recommend Ender's Game.

Okay, I'll post a few of my favorite books here as I could go on for days. . .
Dune:
By Frank Herbert
One of the greatest sci-fi books of all times. I thoroughly enjoyed it and find myself desperately wanting to re-read it now.
Ender's Game:
Another great sci-fi series. I also like the sequel Speaker for the Dead although I didn't like Xenocide or Children of the Mind as much (Note: I never finished Children of the Mind)
Wheel of TIme:
One of the greatest fantasy series of all time. Although the later books can be drags at time and RJ could consider being more concise![]()
Belgeriad:
Essentially the WoT in a different setting with slightly different characters on a smaller scale.
Any of Jules Verne's works:
(esp. Mysterious Island)
. . .
I could keep going, but I'm too lazy.It seems like you have read my mind. The first 3 are all great books. I am re-reading WoT from the begining, and am currently on Book 7. I like the fact that he isn't concise. Makes it so I can't plow through the series in a week.

Yeah I'm loving WoT. I'm reading it for the first time, I'm on book 9 (after skipping all the Perrin in it to get the Mat, I'm almost done. I'll go back and back-fill later >.>)
Belgariad is quite good
It approaches magic from interesting way (kinda like Newton's 3rd law, every magical action has an equal and opposite reaction) and in my opinion it is one of the best Sword and Sorcery series out there (although I haven't read that many so it's not really my place). Author is David Eddings here are the books from amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Belgariad-Vol-Books-1-3-Magicians/dp/0345456327/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1269921010&sr=8-1
Although there are many more volumes and stuff to go along with this one, the first.

My favorite book is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, but I like tons of books out there.

Slaughterhouse-Five & Cat's Cradle are also my favorites.
But I love Slaughterhouse-Five more.
And Tom, don't pretend I wasn't the one who recommended Slaughterhouse-Five to you.

They are both by Margaret Peterson Haddix. The missing series is about children of the past that are saved by people of the future. They end up in modern time, and a lot of stuff goes bad. I suggest it, though, right now, there are only 2 books in the series.
The shadow children is about children who must hide. The government believed that too many people would mean not enough food, so families are only allowed to have 2 children. These are stories about what they do and it is really good. There are 7 books in this series.Ooh I read the Shadow Children. I have every book except Among the Barons.
Wow. Then you missed the only one with connections to Luke's friend (I forgot what her name was)
yes i agree BEST BOOKS EVER!!

Eh, his ideas were good, but he isn't that great of an author. Too many exclamation marks and stuff.
It's a good book, but I did get sick of the exclamation marks every few sentences.

It's really hard for me to pick a favorite... I like a lot of books. Although, I will recommend The Giver and its sequels, Gathering Blue and The Messenger, all by Lois Lowry. Also, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is really good. If I listed all of my favorite books you'd get bored.

Out of your list, the ones I read are The Giver and The Book Thief. The Book Thief is one of my favorite books of all time!

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Great book, but a lot of younger users probably won't get a good read out of it.
