Limit on thread posts.

To help with the flamewars and spam, how about when a thread has over 75 posts, it gets closed. But only in all forums but Text Based Games. It would give a HUGE break to the mods too.

Re: Limit on thread posts.

This is a bad idea, especially with new users double (or more) posting.

Re: Limit on thread posts.

The focus of the thread may not be dealt with in the thread yet even after 75 posts. That's why I think it is a bad idea.

Not, that bad of an idea actually. It is just that stickies would be severely damaged. And shamrocker, if you wish you can delete this thread by deleting your first post.

Re: Limit on thread posts.

In the case of the Scratch Forums, I fail to see how a post limit of 75 posts would help - it is possible for threads to not be resolved within 75 posts, and implementing an auto-close policy based on that criteria is pretty bad. One solution to this is to bump the post limit to a much higher number (most forums usually set this number up to 1000 posts or so); another solution is to set a time limit on threads (typically six months or a year) like other forums sometimes do.

Imposing limits does have its advantages - it would cut down on unnecessary necroposting/gravedigging. This would be good for some sections such as Miscellaneous, Show and Tell, Announcements and New Members where old threads usually do not need to be brought back. But in cases where a topic is open-ended and/or not resolved, limits become a backlash - All About Scratch, Troubleshooting, Sensor Boards have many open-ended or unresolved topics where setting limits would be a bad idea.

That'd only work if he created the thread - he didn't.

Re: Limit on thread posts.

I don't think this idea would work out well because we would have to close some of the announcements, collabs, request threads, and more.

Re: Limit on thread posts.

I don't really like the limit idea, because then for threads like the dragon egg one or any other popular topic would have to be made again and again and again. That would mean I'd have to make this again. We'd have to restart topics like crazy. And the time limit that cheddargirl said would do the same too.

The time limit would be a good idea.

Yeah, that's one terrible backlash against time limits (or maybe there's a way to spare some threads from closure? I don't know  hmm )

Hmm... I think we have a fairly good discussion here on how thread limits (time, posting, or otherwise) could be improved. Let's leave the thread open a little while longer and see how it goes. There might be some more good ideas to bring about.  smile

Re: Limit on thread posts.

I don't support, but maybe there could be an option like:

[close thread?]
  [never]
  [at post (  )]
  [after (   ) days]

for anybody who supports this.

Well, I'd be happy to allow most of my threads to be closed after a month or so; I see no reason for them to stay when they are outdated.

Outdated, in what way? What subjects would go outdated, except for lke Scratch day and events in the year. Until scratch 2.0 comes out, unless theres a bug fix, Scratch will stay the same, except if someone mods it.
