how do you get rid of the white background in microsoft paint?

you can use the paint bucket tool and fill a color.
but if want it to be transparent, (shown by checkers) so that it's clear around the shape, you have to use another program.  (paint is extremely old and simple.) I can suggest some in a little while.  there's some free ones and ones that you can use online. this might be one that will work http://www.pixlr.com/

A good, free and easy to use editor is Paint.NET: http://www.getpaint.net

And it supports transparencies. ;D

I've never figured out how to use Gimp D: But I've seen good stuff made in GIMP, it must be powerful  big_smile

If you combine Gimp and Paint.Net you get Photoshop CS3

I had Gimp (but got a new computer so forgot to download it). But i found and old thread where I made sigs for people and I was pretty darned good at it too. here are some of my works.
