This is for if you have windows of course. If you still don't see anything after you do what markyparky56 said you do, then your last resort is to use WinZip or WinRAR (They both open .Zip files). If you need those instructions please say so.

Or just double click on it and copy the contens to a new folder.

In reality, It wouldn't be completely extracted because that moves the compressed files into a uncompressed folder with compressed files. But it works somehow. I guess physics don't apply on Microsoft Operating Systems.

I think its because when you extract them manualy they uncompress... im not sure. It also means you can get only the things you want and not the extras.

I don't mean to sound mean, but I am annoyed. I don't have that option when I right click! I have
OPEN
SCAN
OPEN WITH ->
SHARE
SEND TO ->
CUT
COPY
CREATE SHORTCUT
DELETE
RENAME
PROPERTIES
NO extract all! I'm running vista home version on a dell inspiron! This is why I can never open any!

Winrar is for opening .rar files... Winzip is the supposed best Zip file extracter.

in the words of someone else:
WinZip does one thing, extract zip files, and it does it quite well too.
Winzip may be cool, but I advise using IzArc. It can extract/decompress a like, 40 different file types.

hehe, but when I had vista, I thought it came with an unzipper. hmmm

Or do what i do and just not bother with a fancy program and use XP's built in extractor.
(But i do now have WinRar because i had to open a rar file.

You don't need WinRAR to open RAR files. Free softwares can do that easily (extracting is free, that's making RAR files which isn't).
I recommend 7-Zip, fast and learn, or if you prefer a WinZip-like interface, IZArc.

WinRar is free... isn't it?

No, it is a shareware that is "free to try for a limited period". You are supposed to pay for it after using it for a while.
Same for WinZip.
I don't know why everybody thinks it is free. People get so used to click through the nag screen opening each time they use it that they no longer remember it exists...

WinRAR is actually free. It's trial thing doesn't work XD. I still have it after 2 years.

No. It is the kind of shareware that doesn't stop working after a while, but still display a nag screen each time you use it, trying to persuade you to buy it. Which isn't very efficient, indeed.
But it is not free, see their site: "You can try WinRAR before buy [...] Buy WinRAR archiver [...] Our online service handles orders by credit cards, fax, bank/wire transfers and cheques." Looks quite explicit...
It is like saying "Metropolitan is free because I can just jump above the control point." :-)
To each their own, but I prefer to use totally free tools that are at least as good. I don't need to make RAR archives anyway.

But how do you get the stuff out of the .rar files?
