Re: Translating the Scratch Resource Materials

Hi,

Just to let you know that I have posted Dutch translations for the "Creating with Scratch", "Learning with Scratch" and "Programming with Scratch" documents at:

http://nederscratch.googlepages.com

In Dutch, the titles are "Iets maken met Scratch", "Leren met Scratch" en "Programmeren met Scratch", respectively.

Documents are in PDF.

Cheers,

Gijsbert

Re: Translating the Scratch Resource Materials

I would like to translate scratch to no latin langauge.
However the current version supports only latin character set.
I know that in the next release scratch will have multilingual support.

I would like translate Scrach for my son that does not know Enlgish yet.
I can offer a fast (yes and I know that is a little big ugly)  way for translation using Squeak built in font editor machanism.
Of corse It will not be a ture multilingual support and will include and addion of a single language  But it can be done with forcing me to dive into Squeak that is not realy my "natural" programming langauge.
I already edit Squeak system fonts. However Scratch probably uses different set fonts (or some else which I am missing?)
Does any one know how can edit them?
(A link to Scracth and Squeak font structure will be fine too)

Thank you

Dear Asaf,

The new version of Scratch will support non-latin character sets.  Which language would you like to translate it to?  If you'd like to contribute to the translation of Scratch, you can find the instructions here:
http://scratch.wik.is/Support/In_many_languages/Translating_Scratch

Please feel free to email me directly at evelyn@media.mit.edu if you'd like to discuss this new version of Scratch so I can give you more details about what it will support.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Evelyn

Hi Evelyn,

That's quite OK. Thanks for linking the page, it will help when we try and get more people hooked on Scratch here in the Netherlands.

Have you found a Spanish translator?

I would love to work on it, although response time will be slow because it would be done on my spare time.

Please let me know.

Dear Qualanqui,

Thank you for your offer.  Currently, we have the Scratch interface, website, Getting Started Guide and cards translated into Spanish.  However, no one has yet translated the Scratch Reference Guide into Spanish.  Would you like to do this translation?

The source files in English can be found here for the Reference Guide:

Please do not hesitate to post a message here if you have any questions.
Thank you!

Re: Translating the Scratch Resource Materials

One thing I noticed was that when I looked at the Scratch Design Studio in a different language, the goal was not translated. I think it should.

Hi!

I translate Getting Start Guide in Traditional Chinese, and email to help@scratch.mit.edu.

Can I share this PDF file to others now?

Thanks!

Re: Translating the Scratch Resource Materials

Hello, i'd like to translate the 'scratch cards' to Dutch, but I really don't understand Illustrator and Indesign. Can I just give the text to someone and have him/her put it in?

Unfortunately, that's not an option right now -- there's too many languages and too little time! But if you can find someone with experience using that software, maybe they can help?
