A very long process- English to Spanish translator

I am planning probably the longest yet most simple project ever made- a translator with every English word, and when you type it in Scratch cat translates it into Spanish for you.

First of all this requires to add the WHOLE DICTIONARY to the project. So, I am planning on adding 50 words a day- who knows how long it will take me!

But when it comes out------ oh, you'll see how amazing it shall be! EVERY WORD. Imagine that.

Very ambitious. Well you can try. And good luck. But fifty words won't get you anywhere fast.
171,476 words in the dictionary divided by 50= 3429.52 days you will be working on this.

3429.52 Days!!!

Re: A very long process- English to Spanish translator

The problem with this idea is that it it will be almost impossible to ever get your translation because it will take forever to index. To cut this wait down *slightly* I recommend dividing your dictionary into 26 lists one for each starting letter.

I've taken a long hiatus, but I still visit sometimes. Give me some time to answer any messages you post on my projects!

Good idea. Probably the project would be too big, also, without your way.

Sounds great.

However, ten years . . .  hmm

You could assemble a team of helpers, ask them to cover a section of the dictionary into a list and upload for your use.

Nice suggestion. I think I'd have to do that...

Re: A very long process- English to Spanish translator

It won't work. It needs to be more than a literal translation. It needs idioms and grammar.

Re: A very long process- English to Spanish translator

holding that much data will:
a) Crash scratch.
b) If it doesn't crash, it will run out of memory.
c) It will be over 10mb. over 50. Think about 100mb. Also, you'll need a Spanish dictionary.
d) You WILL lose interest in 10 years.
e) We already have dictionary's.
f) Half the world speaks Spanish.

You are COMPLETELY right, yet it would be an accomplishment to me. And anywways, If I do it by each letter it could not use up all the space.

Re: A very long process- English to Spanish translator

Maybe you could translate English to Spanish and vice a versa from letters? Just a "little" shortcut.  tongue

Yes, but you will still need the data to order them.

Scratch could be shut down by then.

Woo, even better minecraft clone! | I feel that programming is better than animation, because you can interact with games but not animations.
