But one thing I would add is the name of who favourited it. Then, if one of your friends had similar interests, you would be more likely to view the project.

Maybe it could also check that the project author's username is different from the favouriter's username - otherwise people might try to get more people to view it by favouriting their own project (I'm not sure if this would be possible, though).

That was the idea I had in mind - I just didn't express myself too well xD

The cool thing is that in theory, because users seem to add users as friends they look up to or really like, this 'Friends Favorites' box will show projects and people they like to users and form networks of people sharing the same interests will form.

(Friends' of Friends projects - facebook style - would do the same but would probably cause enormous database stress)

This may also solve the problem of people complaining about the front page - people could simply hide the categories that they don't want to see.

I really like this idea too!  It would serve to further the advantage of having a friend system at all.
(Thinking slightly off topic: Also, I wish I was able to organize my favorites.  Well, that's like galleries, except galleries can also be edited by multiple users.  I think favorites, love its and galleries (and even tags maybe) are partially competing ideas might be combined or simplified somehow... perhaps.)
