Re: I am quitting scratch

Yeah, I started out in flash actionscript actually before flash (most of my codes from from AS experience). I also know some , html, php/sql, java & pascal.

Here is my mini flash portfolio, working on improving it in the future
http://archmage-flash.newgrounds.com/

As for another language to learn alongside scratch, I think that is hard to say. Many languages are similar and there are a lot of universal concepts. I think it would be difficult to learn another language alongside scratch since scratch is so limiting (and doesn't use conventional terms) you won't be able to apply a lot from other languages into scratch. Since many languages are similar there are a lot of different options for beginning programming. One good way to start learning to program would be looking at this guide that uses the C language http://www.reddit.com/r/carlhprogramming/comments/9o3km/lesson_1_some_thoughts_about_programming_language/ After you do all the lessons (there's about 100) you will find it easy to get into any programming language you want.

If you are looking for whatever is most similar to scratch then that would be flash because it fully integrates programming with animation. The full flash program is from Adobe and costs around $500 (but older versions are cheaper http://buy-oem-soft.com/macromedia-flash-professional-8.php ) and this includes animation features. You can get a free trial for 30 days just to see how it works. If you don't really care for making animations then you can you use flashdevelop with flixel http://flixel.org/

Good luck with your programming endeavors!

Re: I am quitting scratch

I hate it when people post topics like this... either it's just in hopes of getting popular (acting as though everyone should care) or there's no real reason to post it and it's a waste of space.

Re: I am quitting scratch

I'm 14, and I haven't quit yet.  I probably will quit in my junior or senior years of high school.  I'm only an eighth grader right now.

Actually I am leaving the forums soon. Its fully understandable that he wants to quit, he didn't sign any contracts and he can do as he pleases. And scratch the program is not age specific but the overall community is as it is apparent with all the animal projects on the frontpage.

You've said that like a million times. I think we get the point.

Re: I am quitting scratch

Actually, I think I might quit making projects, but not leave the site, right after I finish making this AMV about Harry Potter.  It'll be cool, but after that I think I might be done.  Or not.  I might just keep at it.

Re: I am quitting scratch

I don't see why Louis2018 is moving on to another language. His projects weren't really that good at all (no offense to him).

I am not going to make any more projects but I will enter them in contests and still be on the forums.

I suppose I should say a few words.

Actually, lots of us have heard of him.

Anyway, have fun, Louis2018. There is no such thing as "too old for Scratch," but if you feel it is time to move on to other languages, I understand. Good luck!

Re: I am quitting scratch

This is a good example of one of the problems affecting most communities on the interwebs nowadays. Somebody says something somewhat disrespectful... a month passes by and nothing happens. But when the person who was disrespected sees the post a month later, suddenly the old issue is brought back from the dead, rises to the top of the forum, and gets lots of views and attention.

So I'm going to close this.  We might think about doing a bit of pruning around here as well, so that old threads with less than friendly statements don't hang around waiting to be reignited.... and lets let by-gones be by-gones, shall we?
