Trying to embed scratch programs in Powerpoint. Any suggestions.

I don't think you can. You can make a demo movie and embed that.
Better by far simply to leave Powerpoint and just do a live demo.

At least in my version of PowerPoint (I haven't upgraded to 2007), there is no equivalent of the Open Office "insert applet" command. You could probably do it somehow with a mix of PowerPoint slides and .html pages - but it would be messy and rather hard to edit. (If someone has done this, would you please post the proceedure in this forum - it would be quite useful.)
I agree with Kevin that the easiest thing to do would be to just make two presentations. Alternately, you could make a slideshow type presentation using just Scratch (see http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/mohlar/17017 ). If you also want to demonstrate the interactive features of Scratch, this might be the easiest.
Finally, you might just try using Open Office but saving the result as a PowerPoint presentation.

Wow, I didn't know you can embed applets in Open Office. Impressive!
It may be a relatively new feature. I notice that all my Java update notices also offer to download Open Office so maybe Sun is trying to push the link between the two.

The on-line scratch player is a java applet. I don't know whether phones have enough processor power to run it, or big enough screens.
The downloadable scratch development environment is a squeak program. It runs under Mac OS X and Windows. It is unlikely ever to be ported to phones, as it requires at least 1024 pixels across the screen.

nuttakorn: i notice that, on the lifelong kindergarten site, the team is apparently working on a mobile version of scratch, which should be cool:

I've been toying with the idea of inserting scratch games into PowerPoint presentations for some of the pupils I teach. It's possible, but fairly long-winded.
Here's a tutorial that should talk you through how to do it:

Hey there, ernest, sadly, PowerPoint at this time is not capable of importing Scratch project files not is it capable of importing Java applets.
A workaround might be to upload the project to the Scratch website and use LiveWeb software (a PowerPoint add-in), which should theoretically show the web page of the project in real time (I haven't tried the software myself, but this is the only solution I am aware of with regards to importing a Java applet into a PowerPoint presentation):
- Download page: http://skp.mvps.org/liveweb.htm
- Step-By-Step instructions: http://www.ehow.com/how_4967102_put-app … point.html
- NOTE: If you use the LiveWeb method, just note that it doesn't work in PowerPoint viewer nor on computers that do not have LiveWeb installed.
If the goal is to simply show a Scratch project in action, maybe you'll just want to use videocapture software and record the Scratch project as it is running to create a film and insert that film into PowerPoint.
Hopefully this helps out for your school project.

Or he could have the program seperate, maybe convert it to an .exe file and have a link to it in the same folder as the powerpoint.

Or he could have the program seperate, maybe convert it to an .exe file and have a link to it in the same folder as the powerpoint.
Or a link to the project online. Either way, the Scratch project will launch from the slide.
I think ernest wanted the project embedded in PowerPoint, though. It's too bad Scratch projects run in Java instead of Flash online - if it was flash, then the projects could be embedded right into the slide.

You can embed flash in powerpoints? Hmmm... something i never new... but thats probably because iv never had the need too.
Isn't scratch supposed to be flash for 2.0?
