You're right. Look at a graph of the average tempetures in the last 200 years, and it's going up and down, up and down. Who knows, it could of been even warmer 1000 years ago.

There used to be polar bears in Scotland - approximately 20,000 years ago (I think - it might be 10,000 - or 5,000 - I don't pay much attention in geography  ). There is currently one polar bear in Scotland - the only one in the UK.
