Re: Java has VIRUSES???????

Just relax, as long as you downloaded it from java.com, you don't have a virus. What you downloaded is the installer, and you need to open that and follow the instructions to get java to work - downloading without installing it won't do anything.

Don't worry, it's normal and you don't have a virus.  smile

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

or from Sun Microsystems' websites
Java DOES NOT contain viruses.

.exe files are NOT always viruses. If you download an .exe file from the Java website, there's a 99.99% chance of it being a virus. Almost every program you use is an .exe, so .exe files aren't always virus files.

Look at what you just said.

Re: Java has VIRUSES???????

Dude. .EXEs are not always viruses. The majority are not viruses. Windows uses .EXEs. Scratch is a .EXE (and .image). Windows Explorer is .EXE. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Safari, any windows web browser is .EXE.

Java is a .EXE, and is NOT a virus if you are sure you got it from http://www.java.com/.

I think BWOG was trying to say that it's almost certainly NOT a virus, if you got it from the official Java website.

This information is correct...many applications require that you download a .exe installer program and run it.  Just make sure that you are downloading it from the real website.

Exe are  nearly always not viruses, but when you downloaded scratch you downloaded an exe, so your pretty safe as Java is a RELIABLE source

Re: Java has VIRUSES???????

It seems that we are getting off-topic. Isn't his/her problem can't view projects instead of Java is/has virus?

Maybe it's because you have downloaded the file, but you didn't install it (open the file)?

Re: Java has VIRUSES???????

Java doesn't have viruses. .EXE is the standard file for any Windows EXEcutables, which are basically programs.

Re: Java has VIRUSES???????

You download the exe installer. Double click on that to run it and then it will install java on your pc. If it doesn't work then your pc may have high security settings.
