Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean. What little thing while it's moving? sprites are already also icons below the project preview on the right. Would you please explain again? In what ways will this help?

Anyways, what I think he's trying to say is, "How do you get sprites to be avatars?" I have no idea, but maybe someone who knows will see this.

The best you can do is take a screenshot and convert it to a GIF.

Actually, on a Widows PC, you can go to the "change picture" link on your profile page. Then, go to:
- My Computer
- - Local Disk
- - - Program Files
- - - - Scratch
- - - - - Media
- - - - - - Costumes
Then choose a costume, and click "OK"
This won't allow for sprites with scripts, and it won't be animated - but it should answer your question
