Re: We Should Be Able To Embed Projects In The Forums!

This would be really cool, but on the other hand, people might spam and stuff.

Other than that this is a great idea, they should really think about doing this!  big_smile

Code would look like this:

Code:

[Scratchproject] - Url of scratch project - [/scratchproject]

     http://internetometer.com/image/9678.png                                                               Don't Feed The Trolls!!!  big_smile

Re: We Should Be Able To Embed Projects In The Forums!

That'd mean that the Java player would have to be embedded into the forums. Which will be really annoying for them.  hmm

Why can't you just give a link to your project?

It's not really that hard, with basic HTML you could probably do it... As the Project Embed code is in HTML.

Interesting idea. Perhaps it should only be limited to the Collaboration and the Show and Tell forums to start.

Re: We Should Be Able To Embed Projects In The Forums!

Cool idea, but what if the forum posts take too long to load? Also, what if there are multiple glitches, such as the glitches with large projects? Can you even embed a Java player with BBCode?

That'd be good... it'd be interesting to have this.

I don't see why you can't just give a link to the project.  hmm

Re: We Should Be Able To Embed Projects In The Forums!

This wouldn't give views, allow a love-it, allow favorites, and probably other inconveniences.

The forums would become the project hub.  hmm

Convenient? It's much more convenient to just give a link to the project then to have the Scratch Team do all the work when there's not much use...  hmm

still an interesing idea though, convient for the user, not for the Scratch team though... I wonder what their answer to this will be, if it is anything.

Re: We Should Be Able To Embed Projects In The Forums!

It's a cool idea - there would be some advantage to being able to feature your project in this way. But there are some problems as a few Scratchers upthread have pointed out. The main one is that when you try to load a bunch of embedded Scratch projects at the same time, it can really slow things down.  It can also be hard to figure out which one will be getting keyboard input. So if you have nine projects on a page, and you click the space bar, which one will react with When space bar pressed blocks?

(Actually, it would be kind of cool if you interact with nine Scratch projects simultaneously... not sure if it's really possible though. Somebody with knowledge of html could try it...  smile   There's an entry on how to embed projects in html pages on our FAQ.)

So - cool suggestion! I can imagine some benefits, but I think the drawbacks outweigh them.

Sometimes I find no reason to view a project on the forums.

A link does not tell me if it's cool.

I know HTML. In order to get the 9 projects to run at the same time, I would just use 9 <applet> or <object> or <embed> tags. The way you guys set up the Java player to play a project, I will also have to use 9 <param> or whatever tags.

I think links should stay... and the imbedding scratch projects out.it makes it too likely (even with rules) someone will be spamming.  sad

Re: We Should Be Able To Embed Projects In The Forums!

Imagine if you could only add one project, like at the bottom of the page it says:

Add project: [(input project link here)]

And you could choose:

[ ] Top Of Page?

[X] Bottom Of Page?

And that way you could only add one project.

Re: We Should Be Able To Embed Projects In The Forums!

This would make the forums wayyyyyy too laggy and for lo-o-o-o-o-o-ong topics, if everyone put a project in there reply, it might slow the forums down enough that the server crashes.  sad  Lots of people have suggested this before. I think that links are good enough.
