Oh my gosh! Scratch app!

It isn't very fast, but the new iPhone / iPod touch application is AWESOME!!!!!! You can't run hugely fast projects, but it runs less complicated ones EXTREMELY well. It is only 3.99$ which isn't cheap, but it is not a rip off either. I got and and love it.

DOWNLOAD IT!!!

Re: Oh my gosh! Scratch app!

Are you talking about the application in Announcements?

Re: Oh my gosh! Scratch app!

Yeah, but I just thought I'd spread the word to people who don't typically read the announcments forum (like me). Well now I'm embarrased...

Re: Oh my gosh! Scratch app!

I really hink the creators are greedy. Why put a 3.99$ tag on free software?

The creator. And considering that not many people outside of Scratchers will download the app, it is a reasonable price.

Well, I imagine it took them a lot of time and effort to get it to work on the iPhone.  And 4 bucks really isn't all that much, to most people.

My question is how fast is it?  I saw the beta running on a first generation iPod touch and it was quite slow.  I'm hoping it runs faster on the newer devices.  We need somebody to write a performance benchmark Scratch app so we can compare speeds on different platforms  smile

Right away! My dad said I could download it, so I'll do that right now.

Re: Oh my gosh! Scratch app!

Well just posting for my iPod touch 2nd generation (with 3.0 software),
it is great for running simple projects. However, with large projects with complicated scripts, it just can't handle it.
Imagine a project running single stepping (fast). It would be a little faster than that. However, the quality is less than that of the online player (unfortunately).

Testing app now:

At first, it prompts you to input your Scratch account an password.
As soon as you sign in, it has a funny message saying "Herding cats, working furiously, wait...". You can then choose any project from the website and it will load in the viewer.

Overall, this app is very slow, even on my 3rd Gen iPod touch. Here are how some projects worked on the device:

Mmm Tacos... (Short)
xXMikeyPXx
Speed: 10/10
Comments: This project ran well and in sync, maybe because it was very small.

The Beach
Yours Truly
Speed: 8/10
Comments: Even a simple project like this was lagging behind a bit. The movement of the birds were scratchy, but at least the sound was high quality.

fall down
m44
Speed: 0/10
Comments: Didn't even load.

Re: Oh my gosh! Scratch app!

How is the key input? Does it have arrow keys? Does it recive keys as input instead of typing? Does it recieve taps as clicks? Also, would you mind testing one of my simplere games so I have a better idea of the speed? Thanks a ton.

One half of the screen is the project, the other half is the keyboard, green flag, etc.

It's kind of an akward set up, because on the regular viewing mode you have a keyboard, and in presentation mode you have arrow keys. So if you were to use both, you would have to constantly switch back and forth.
