Making Mario-Like game BUT mario goes through the sprite stairs i made

Ok, I Painted a new sprite to make some stairs for mario to climb up but...

When he jumps on them he goes straight through them?

You'll need so to make it so he reacts to all sides of the stairs. Check out the stairs in my "Jetpack Gobo" project to see what I mean.
