You should be able to copy and paste text already.
There just is not a easy menu, button, or selector that you can click to make it work. but the standard keyboard shortcuts should work:
Ctrl + C to Copy.
Ctrl + X to Cut
Crtl + V to Paste
(I tried to copy your upside down text into Scratch on Windows and it works. cool ! 
)
