About Collaborations

We're really interested in Collaborations / Companies because we think it's great when Scratchers work together to make interesting projects. One of our goals for Scratch 2.0 is to better support collaborations like these, so we'll be checking in from time to time to see how things are going, and to learn from your experiences.

If you have thoughts about how we can better support collaborations by Scratchers, please feel free to share them in the Suggestions forum. We often check in to consider the different ideas - especially those that Scratchers have spent time thinking through or demonstrating.

Scratch On!

Re: About Collaborations

BTW - I noticed that some Scratchers posting here were concerned that we might block companies that share a single account. Don't worry - we won't - we love collabs! But please make sure the password is kept secure (maybe just put a single member of the company in charge?)  If we see the password shared publically, or if someone gets the password and uses the account disrespectfully, we'd probably have to block it, at least temporarily.

Awesome!  smile
Yeah we've always loved collaborations. Often when we present about Scratch at conferences we'll mention them. And it's really cool that Scratchers pretty much made collabs on their own.

Yeah - totally, that ones definitely on the list. Crediting all the different contributors would help support remixing and collaborations in a really nice way. Andresmh is already thinking about better ways to do that.

You guys should look at the way newgrounds does it, it allows you to select the contributors and how they contributed.

Re: About Collaborations

How about crediting companies like Newgrounds? Like if someone made a game called Cat. It would say "Cat, Artist: Guy Artist: Girl Programmer: Girl". Something like that would be nice  smile

Re: About Collaborations

How about the ability to send projects to collaborators without uploading them to the scratch website (the collaborators might get a notification like "username has sent you the file "File name.sb. Click to download.) and the ability to send other collaborators notifications without posting comments.

Like e-mail on scratch. That one will be the greatest. Then you can send passwords and things without other people knowing.

Re: About Collaborations

I think that Scratch 2.0 should just have a built in password system...

How would that work?

Re: About Collaborations

I don't know... You could check a button that says "enable password", and when the project was opened, you couldn't do anything until you entered the password...

The only problem, is that, that's very similar to private messaging, which the Scratch Team will NEVER add/do.

Re: About Collaborations

I just had an idea:

Why not give a graph for the contributions?
Scratch would measure amount of blocks, sounds, and costumes added/ removed for each user, and produce a chart like this:
Outer ring: Programming
Inner ring: Essentials(sound, costumes, etc.)
