I think I have solved the Scratch as a social networking site problem

What if the rule was you had to create at least 5 projects that have more than 5 scripts to join the forums?

This idea is a work in progress, and is very hard to work out.

Bad idea, newbies won't be able to come for help on their early projects.

Re: I think I have solved the Scratch as a social networking site problem

Also it's a bad idea as in most of the social networking happens off forum, in RPG galleries and the sort.

Also it's a bad idea as I'd be kicked off from the forums then.

Re: I think I have solved the Scratch as a social networking site problem

Although it would discourage people from joining just to use the forums, new users wouldn't be able to get the help they need. Anyway, I don't quite understand. Would it be 5 projects with at least 5 scripts each or put together?

Re: I think I have solved the Scratch as a social networking site problem

I only have one project (although it does have 82 sprites and a lot more scripts)

Most of the social networking isn't on the forums... it wouldn't really help much.  hmm

Re: I think I have solved the Scratch as a social networking site problem

5 projects? That's unfair for people who put work into their projects. There are some helpful people that joined in 2007, and are active. But all their projects fit into one page.

This and the fact that it's virturally impossible in PunBB makes it a bad idea.

Re: I think I have solved the Scratch as a social networking site problem

Also people can just upload these 5 projects with 5 "When Flag Clicked" blocks to get around it.

Re: I think I have solved the Scratch as a social networking site problem

Yeah, but the forums isn't everything.. in fact, forums is one of the least used parts of the website. Most people just comment and stuff... 1/3 of the users have visited the forums. About 1/2 (about, not sure) have actually made more 5 posts. So this isn't really reasonable.

Re: I think I have solved the Scratch as a social networking site problem

This is not at all a good idea.  mad  the forums are used to help the newbies with their projects in the first place, so then nobody would ever use the forums.

I agree, probably for some newbies the forums are their lifelines, even if there was a special forum which let advanced scratchers (this applys to "you have to have atleast 5 projects with atleast 5 scripts in to go on the forums) to go on it would be a bad idea because number 1: what the point, number 2: how would it help anyone, number 3: it wouldnt make a difference if newbies went on it or not and most importantly how could newbies get help??
