For the list: We also need a better answer block. For example, a raw input question for your names and stuff, and also an 'already identified' question block that has preset answers (Level Password Codes, Cheats, Quiz Games). Is having network connections possible for scratch though? For example, if the programming language the New Scratch will be made in has access to MyDocuments or MyComputer or computer files, you could program in a block in Scratch that affects this ability in the base program that affects the computer.
Also, will older scratch files (1.4.1 and under, practically any made in Squeak) be able to be played in the new scratch? I don't suppose you could transfer Squeak into something else, but if the blocks are generally going to be the same, maybe you could have a group of volunteers transform some of the better projects into the new Scratch (imitating block for block the programming ).

Lightinin: wow! that's great news! so you're moving away from squeak? what are you changing to? I just started learning squeak so if I know what 2.0 will be written in, I can get a headstart! Is there a loose release month we can all look forward to? and is it much different for you to program in this new code, easier/harder for the developers? Scratch is designed "to raise the ceiling, lower the floor and widen the walls" but I read that you are concentrating on "lowering the floor" more than anything else. Some people have, in response, suggested that different levels of scratch should be released so that beginners can move through the versions from ScratchBeginner to ScratchPro or something like that. What are your thoughts on that suggestion?
Scratch 2.0 will be implemented in Flash. Right now we're shooting for a release about this time next year, but it's difficult to tell for sure. (These things take a long time - and a ton of design work!)
Re: floors. We always want to keep the floor very low But I wouldn't say we're mostly focusing on lowering it. A lot of thought is being put into ways to increase functionality without bringing that floor up. Ideally we'd make Scratch so that greater complexity / functionality is available to the Scratcher when they are ready for it, but doesn't confuse those who aren't. Sounds easy, right? Believe it or not, it really isn't.
