New blocks made for internet interaction

I had an idea while I was working on my new ipod touch game (Check it out on my test account-- www.scratch.mit.edu/users/coolperson_tests --check it out!) and I decided the whole project would be kinda cheesey without internet interaction. So how about a block somthing like this....
<go to website _____>
With that, it would take programming with scratch to whole new level!

Re: New blocks made for internet interaction

I think the scratch team is against this because it could lead to inappropriate sites.

Don't argue. I support it, but they don't.

Thats why the scratch community flags projects.

Re: New blocks made for internet interaction

...okay, but how do you code interaction with other players?

It would be nice, though.  hmm

Re: New blocks made for internet interaction

Can you think of interesting uses for web data in Scratch? It's by Andrés, if you're wondering. It's a nice topic that you may find interesting.

It'd be cool, but... like Chrischb said, what would the blocks be, and how would you use them? I can't think of any way to do specific things with websites...

Re: New blocks made for internet interaction

I'm wondering how the Scratch Program would support this... Unless it opens up a web browser that opens the web page, but if the web page is opened up in Scratch... that would require technology that I don't think MIT would spend time making an entire programming language that allows you to do stuff on the website in the middle of another language. You could hack many sites by having such a thing. In some ways... I don't support this. Sorry.

Another Useful Block Would Be A Block That Lets You Have nternet Connection! Like One Player Is Playing, They Go On Multiplayer, It Says Looking For Another Player... And When Someone Else Goes On Multiplayer, They Can Compete From Deferant Computers! You Gotta Admit, That Would Be AWSOME.

Re: New blocks made for internet interaction

Reason:

1. Can be lead to chat room.
2. Scratch won't support it because it don't know your server password.
3. Scratch MIT edu do google, google webs? Impossible!

Answer is: IMPOSSIBLE!!

How you test it id it was't on online? Everyone will don't know what you're doing, also you can only put "AI" Computer Player It require WFC.

Re: New blocks made for internet interaction

And, you guys, don't forget that it could lead to like, 9000 of the same page and crash a computer, or lead to an inappropriate site.

Re: New blocks made for internet interaction

I have already made a block to do this.
See this project to find out how you can add it into scratch. As a bonus, it also allows you to open files, run programs, open folders, and even perform some system tasks!

#1, alright. #2, if you can get on to scratch, it can use your network any way it wants, you're already in. #3 Why would you use google webs? HUH?

Chat rooms are no problem as long as they are not put in the Scratch forums or any part of scratch where the topic is not relevant.

Re: New blocks made for internet interaction

as discussed in the topic http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=329558#p329558 talking about an URL block, (I suggest you read) there are so many dangers associated with that block. I quote what I posted there:

sparks wrote:

I admit that when I heard of this first, I thought it would be a great idea, but you're all right, there are too many people who would abuse this block. on one hand, the scratch server could automatically check all the links placed in URL block to check that they are safe, but on the other hand, as someone pointed out, the vast majority of internet sites are adult only so there is NO WAY that the server could filter out 100% of all dangerous websites. then there is the problem that different countries consider different things innapropriate at different ages. It would be nice, certainly, but the virus count would go up, the cyberbullying count would rise and the complaints and banned projects would soar through the roof, not to mention the work that this could cause the Scratch team.

Re: New blocks made for internet interaction

Before opening the page, it would give a warning thing: This Scratch project wants to take you to (some web address) Proceed? You would have to answer yes.
