Are you a wii member and a member on scratch? Well this topic will talk about my idea (mariotornado and others) of having the Scratch™ program from the Massachusetts International of Technology be on the Wii™. Soon I will post a project of what Scratch™ would probably look like in seaveral types of ways (by me or other Scratch™ users)! So drop a comment or too on my projects or on this form! Have fun and comment soon!

wii doesnt support java so you cant view your projects on it. and the wii cant download anything off the internet channel its part of its programing. sorry to be so negative but its true.

that would be cool, but alas, the wii does not support java.

Yet they could basically do an extra disc, called WiiScratch maybe? I think it's a great idea. It would add more intensity to the game a it would be good if the disc could also be transferred to PC. Even if the Wii system won't download it if it was compatible with PC you could upload your creations and download the stuff there before taking in to the console(?).

wii scratch disk is a good idea. (hopefully it wouldn't cost $50.00!)

You are wrong, it wouldn't be easy to make the wii support java. The odds for a wii version of scratch are very, very slim.

Well, apparently Nintento are already experimenting with Squeak-based software on their wii, and are even said to have ported Squeak to it:

I haven't been able to find that port yet, however.
The Squeak-VM is highly portable, and if there were a squeak-port for the wii available you could probably also run the Scratch.image without much tweaking...

But it wouldn't run online. Just the app would run offline (disc).

Jens: Thanks for that info. I know my kids are itching to use the wiimote for Scratch games in a manner similar to that used for Flash games.

actualy the scratch team can make a program to convert java to something else and the scratch team can get Nintendo to make the scratch channel mabye.

Think about this. If a wii Scratch comes out, there will be entirely new blocks, new system, new everything. Everything has to basically start from Scratch. It's like running Mac OSX on a PC. I'm not saying it can't be done. I'm saying that everything will have to start over. And programming will be more complex. For example, Wii controller can move 180 degrees in every direction. Which means that making Wii Scratch will be A LOT harder than Scratch.

or you could have an online community with only wii projects that runs on somthing other than Java... If there is anything other than java.. sorry I dont know much about how hardware and software work together

This is a great idea (but I don't own a wii ) and Nintendo is much more likely to focus on implementing Flash (installed on 95% of computers) than Scratch (with something like 90,000 members, a very small community).

it would be great as a channel and being able to put your mii's in a project with them having over 50 poses already made then sharing them on WII-Scratch!and upload sprites you can use for the scratch channel and buy some nintendo sprites like legend of zelda majora's mask actual sprites!and mario and luigi and ect!

Mabey Nintendo© can make a link you can only find on the wii. This link gos to a website that you can play scratch games on. We wil have to convert the scratch prodjects into a new type of file after The upload. Like youtube. wii can support dat.
we can convert all the scratch prodjects to that type of file.
Mabey we can do dat. mabey........ mabey not.
Plz reply back if you like dat idea.
