(to newer Scratchers: TBG stands for the ill-fated text-based games)
I tried to be patient with their choice. It was a ridiculous idea, but it's thanks to all these foolish people, the TBG "haters", the TBG lovers, and the Scratch team, that it got done in the first place.
As I saw it:
-TBG "haters" want it gone because it had too much flaming in their eyes. Many of these people posted in many of the Inspiration and More flame wars at the time.
-TBG lovers (or preservers for a more formal term) spent all their time in TBG and wanted to preserve it. They didn't use Scratch at all and they also flamed a bit, but only in what should have been I & M discussions.
-The Scratch Team tried to please both opposing forces by making a new forum for TBG. However, that does nothing in particular but make the TBG haters feel pleased for "getting rid of" the TBG forums.
-I did nothing in particular to stop this ignorance, making me ignorant as well.
The Scratch Team is particularly responsible for this folly, as they had made the choice to have nothing changed at all. Trying to please everyone is like trying to please a Christian and an atheist. As I've seen from topics before, that is impossible. (and I was foolish to try to post in their discussion in the first place)
Also, I noticed how TBG haters thought it was fine for a bunch of games to go but not their precious off-topic discussions. I say that maybe I & M should go too, but they ridicule me! Perhaps then they had important things being discussed in there at the time, but now it's been divided and there is a ridiculous unneeded section in here. If I remember correctly, they said the Scratch forums were for discussing Scratch. Maybe sometimes ideas come from I & M, but now it's just (or at least one part is) a place to say what your favorite band is or something.
My proposal: bring TBG back with all it's new moderators, or destroy it completely along with Miscellaneous. Any objections?

Bring the Text-Based Games back? That's crazy. The Text-Based Games were 'moved' because there were some problems with having them in the Scratch Forums. The current Text-Based Games are perfectly fine, and there is no reason to get rid of them.
I don't really like Miscellaneous - it's just a place for people to chat about whatever they want. Sure, there are some topics that have relevance to Scratch - and those topics could just go to All About Scratch!

Instead of destructive obliteration, 'Miscellaneous' could be moved outside the forums like what happened with the TBGs.
The main, primary reason for the moving of the TBGs was that they were a current hassle for us moderators; it was believed that moving the TBGs outside of the current Scratch Forums and making it harder to access initially would lower the conflicts initially started by the TBGs - after all, the TBGs were much like a temptation to post something in the Scratch Forums for the sake of posting while waiting for a reply to a more Scratch-relevant topic; conflicts are less likely to erupt for the person putting more serious thought into playing the TBGs.
Being that Miscellaneous is starting to be come the new off-topic section and now is starting to become the new source of hassle for moderators, one could say that the tactic applied to the TBG might work out well with 'Miscellaneous' - I would assume that 'Miscellaneous' is suddenly becoming the new posting 'temptation', thus moving it outside of the current Scratch Forums would again, in theory, prevent the temptation to post something for the sake of posting while waiting to reply to a more Scratch-relevant topic (or course, whether or not conflicts are less likely to erupt is slightly different in this case as 'Miscellaneous' technically serves as a place to post serious discussion, and we all know that sometimes things get heated).
Hopefully I made any sense here, as this ramble is driven by some sleep-deprivation.

That's brilliant!
Oh - your signature is still the winter one. You might want to change that.

About the signature: there is a scheduled change for February 14 in honor of Chinese New Year. It's going to last for around 15 days, and then return back to the yellow cheesy one after the 15 day period is over.

Now, back on topic. Anyone else have something to say about the fate of 'Miscellaneous'?

I'm looking forward to your new signature.
....................................
I like your idea; it's so simple, and why didn't I think of that?
The problem is that Miscellaneous would need new moderators, and there would be an election, and... well, things seem a bit busy recently.
Moving it seems odd, though. For the TBG, it feels like Scratch is kindly hosting a Text-Based Games forum, but for Miscellaneous, it doesn't seem the same.
But if it came to a vote, I'm with your idea.

Or, the miscellaneous moderators could clamp down hard on any "posting for the sake of posting" topics, and start sending the message that pointless spam is not welcome.
Otherwise, what will happen? You'll move Misc off site, and those people that want to hang around the scratch forums will continue to do so, and just start spamming a different section of the forum.

Perhaps... but what other part of the forum would be considered spam-worthy assuming 'Miscellaneous' was moved? In my opinion, 'Miscellaneous' is pretty much just the last possible spam-worthy place in the Scratch Forums - if it were moved, there is hardly any other place on the forums to talk about something else other than Scratch.

Well, before the I&M forum was created, they would appear in Show and Tell and in Suggestions.
The I&M forum was originally created to divert spam from those forums.
Get rid of the Misc forum and do you honestly believe the spammers will leave with it? Or will they go back to the Show and Tell or Suggestion forums?

Of course/coruse.
OT: Did you know Scratch was made in 2004 and public in 2006, not 2007?

But we want topics to be Scratch-related, right?

I've heard something like that - but please don't post 'spam' like that, rdococ.

With the moving of the Text-Based Games, the current practice right now in approaching misplaced text-based games is to close the topic down, tell the owner that the topic is better placed in the Text-Based Games forum, and re-direct them to where the current Text-Based Game forum is located. If the Miscellaneous forum was moved, the same thing could be done with topics that are better suited for Miscellaneous but have been misplaced elsewhere.

I vote we delete the Text Based Games section altogether and keep the Miscellaneous section here. And you don't need to specify what TBG stands for. I'm sure everyone who's never been on scratch before knows what TBG is.
Offline
Why do you think TBG needs to come back? Nobody is complaining about it being moved, so if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Also Miscellaneous does not need to go. Why would it? It's perfectly fine as it is.

There's so many sides to this argument/conversation... I don't know what to say
I actually... want to support moving Miscellaneous to a new forum. But I do wish that along with that, Miscellaneous is then spread between more forum categories, just like Inspiration and More was done. Such as Polls, Recent Events, Hobbies, Videogames, etc.
But because requests, collaborations, and project ideas are still more scratch related, I want those to stay
.

Keep everything as it is. I'm tired of stuff moving all over the place.

Moving is fun!

This calls for a selectricity vote.

Pfft. -_- Despite my total idiotness during the TBG thing, I actually don't really care what happens to it, at this point...
Anyway, I think Miscellaneous should stay, but if it comes to that, then whatever, move it.
Offline
The reason that the Miscellaneous forum should move, is because all of the attention is here, and there's less attention on scratch-related things.
