Scratch blocks are already translated into several languages. Click on the Language button and you can switch between different languages. Switching between languages does not affect the code and you can always read code in the language of your choice. (Isn't it nice to be able to communicate through the international language of Scratch code?)
We will be working on creating a framework that will make it possible to create translations in other languages! The framework will also allow translations of the rest of the interface.
If Scratch is not in your language and you want to help us translate, thanks a lot, and please, please return here later this year when we plan to have the framework available.
If you have a Scratch resource or article translated, please post it here!

Right now the framework for Scratch only supports languages that use Latin or Romanized alphabets. Work will start this fall to support non-Roman characters--we recognize that as a high priority!
In addition, there are plans for the interface to be revised so it can also be translated into non-English languages.

I'am very happy that the programming is translated into Dutch. My daughter (almost 8) is now able to play along with Scratch.
Is there a change that other parts (e.g. buttons like "save", sprite editor, etc.) will be "translatable" into Dutch?
Is it possible to get the original help files? So if a primay school likes to use Scratch in Holland, they are able to translate and re-use some of the execellent help documents?
Regards,
Frits

Hi fsteenmeijer,
Sure. Here are the original help screens:
http://llk.media.mit.edu/projects/scratch/help/HelpSourcePNGs.zip
Please let us know if you do translate them to Dutch. We are hoping to collect all of these translations and link them from this website.
Thanks!

Hi,
I'd love to help you translating Scratch into Finnish. When you are ready to add new languages, don't hesitate to contact me.

Hi, Tomi.
Thanks for your offer to help with a Finnish translation for the Scratch blocks. Someone else is already working on that but I will keep you in mind if they cannot do it for some reason. Or, if you have the time and inclination, you could translate the help screens (see Tammy's post above).

Hi,
I am a greek student. Are there good news for Greek translation of Scratch?
If not, how could someone help? My dad is in the field and he liked it a lot.
You make excellent work.

You'll have to wait until they fix the limitation to unaccented Roman characters. They are working on doing proper internationalization, but I believe that Squeak didn't support other character sets, so they have to redo a lot to fix the problem.

John,
Was the idea to translate only the texts in the help screens or to create help screen images for Finnish, my native language? If it was the latter, do you have the help screen images in original layered format in which text and background images are on different layers. Only this way the look and feel of the help screens can be guaranteed to be similar in each translation.

I would like to help translate Scratch blocks into european Portuguese.
P.S. - Will the Scratch interface be translatable in the future?

beny, what's wrong with hghattas' enthusiasm about Scratch, and about his wish for Scratch to be translated to Arabic? In fact, what seems to be the problem with Arabic in general? I think it's not nice to post ethnically condenscending comments about another member of the comunity. After all, one of the great things of this website is IMO, that kids and adults from all around the world share their projects, and even make projects together, exchanging sprites, images, ideas and code. Now, hghattas is obviously more fluent in English than you are in Arabic. but what about school kids in the Emirates, don't you want them to enjoy Scratch, too?

beny, people can speak more than one language, hghattas is probably one of those fortunate people. I wish I could speak Arabic.

Yes, it has been translated to 13 languages. Just click on the Languages button in Scratch.
