Mesh: A Tutorial For The Ones Not In The Know

.:Introduction to Mesh:.

Mesh is a feature that can be used to make simple online games in Scratch, mini chat rooms and little games. In this tutorial I will explain Mesh and how to use it.

.:BYOB and Mesh:.

BYOB is A Scratch mod and is one of the two ways to run BYOB.

(-Pros-):

1. Easy to activate, a simple click of the Share Button

2. The ability to run two BYOB windows at the same time, making it an easy experience.

(-Cons-):

1. No direct way to share to the Scratch website, forcing you to share on the Scratch Connections.

2. Unable to run BYOB projects in Scratch.

.:Scratch and Mesh:.

While BYOB is nice, you want to show the world your projects! That's where a Shift Click method comes in handy.

1. Use the Shiftclick method (search for a tutorial)

2. Go to Scratch-UI-Panes > ScratchFrameMorph > menu/button actions > addServerCommandsTo:

3. Change the first "true" to "false"

4. Accept

5. Type in your initials (or just "blah blah")

6. Close the green menu.

When you shiftclick share, you should see the Mesh features!

(Pros):

1. Can share to Scratch website

(Cons):

1. Hard to activate

2. Hard to work in two windows (as of now, I haven't been able to run two windows)

.:How to use Mesh:.

A good example is Martianshark's tutorial.

It's as simple as running two Scratch or BYOB menus.

Post if you want me to add anything!

Woops, I read the description wrong, could this be moved to a better place?

Advanced topics perhaps?

Differs between computers.

Usualy alt-s or control-s or apple-s, try them out, and a little window asking for initials appears.

Mesh is a feature where you can type in two or more IP Addresses and play/make multiplayer games.
I recommend trying it!

To make it easier:
The shiftclick method is as simple as holding shift and clicking the R in Scratch, the clicking turn fill screen off, clicking in the blank white area that appears, going to open, then browser. Should be pretty easy to do the rest.

It is actually not as easy from there. After, GirWaffle's instructions, go to Scratch-UT-Panes > ScratchFrameMorph > menu/button actions > addServerCommands To: . On the second line where it says "t2 ← true" and change it to "t2 ← false". Right-click, select accept, enter your initials, then close the browser and go back to scratch. Go to "Share", hold shift, and right click it. It should say "Host Mesh" and "Join Mesh". After this, your done  big_smile ! Sorry if the instructions are a little confusing...

Re: Mesh: A Tutorial For The Ones Not In The Know

MathWizz's project explains it all probably better than martianshark's does.

Also shift-click the R again and then click "turn fill screen on" then redo the shift-click and this time select "save image for end-user"!!!! And there you go!!! Now whenever you open scratch, you can always use mesh by shift clicking share!!!  big_smile
