Re: Christ's True Stories - Inspiration for Christians

Ok, this is exactly what can't happen, ok?  You can't start a religous war on scratch, it never goes anywhere and people start to complain.  Your right, there isn't a whomping load of evidence for God, but that's the beauty of his design.  If everything were perfectly laid out and we didn't have any choices or actions we could take independently, where's the relationship with God?  God wants to develop relationships with every individual on deep levels.  That's what seperates Christianity from most religons: it's not work based.

Re: Christ's True Stories - Inspiration for Christians

There's already a religious war sort of topic. It's really a discussion though, not a war.
But to counter what you said, why can't it exactly happen? Do you have a problem with my non-beliefs?

It has been proven that there was a man called Jesus Christ. In the Bible, it says he died and rose again. In the Qur'an, (I think, but I'm not sure) it says that Jesus only pretended to be dead. Since these are both from two different religions, it is a cross reference enough to say that there was a man named Jesus, he was (supposed to be) killed, I was alive after hgis execution. Now we know that he can't have only pretended to be dead because:

1) He was given 39 lashes. The whip had several cords that had sharp stones and glass attached to them. This ripped open skin and exposed muscles.
2) Already weakened this much he had to carry his own cross, which in turn would play a part in Jesus dying from exhaustion.
3) His hands were NAILED to a cross, piercing arteries. This could have caused him to die of blood loss. Plus, the weight of his whole body were upon these nails and these wounds.
4) Lastly, his was stabbed in the heart by a spear, by a Roman soldier who had been trained to know where to put the spear.

I can't see any way Jesus could have pretended to be dead.

So if both the Bible and the Qur'an say that Jesus was alive after his execution, we can be pretty sure that Jesus is the Son of God and that he died and rose again.

Anyway, that's not what this is about. This is about inspiring christians with stories and testominies, whether they are true or not.

It is history. Romans killed people by hanging them on crosses. The stabbed them to make sure that they're dead, and in Jesus' case, they whipped them.

Some things I found on the internet about the whip they used on Jesus:

In conclusion, the worst whip, the Flagrum, was not used to kill, but only for intense torture. The verberatio was used mainly as a prelude to crucifixion, but could also have been used for severe punishments. The whip has evolved from a spiny branch to a meticulously made piece of leather art and has been used in many of the millions of merciless whippings in the Roman Empire during Jesus’ time.

The flagrum was a whip with a short handle and generally two or three long thick thongs, each weighted at some distance from their extremity with lead balls or mutton bones. In action, the thongs cut the skin, while the balls or bones created deep contusions. The result was significant haemorrhage and considerable weakening of the vital resistance of the victim.

And how do you put pictures into your comments? I found a full coloured picture of one on the internet.

Re: Christ's True Stories - Inspiration for Christians

Well here's some evidence for you.  Excluding the Bible and Q'uran, we know that Jesus was a real man, that he had a group of followers, that he was note worthy of a Jewish historian which is pretty amazing considering he was a carpenter, and he was crucified.  All of this evidence can be found without looking at the bible or the Q'uran.

Ok. Thanks. And btw it's history that this kind of whip exposed muscles. Here's the pic of one version of the flagrum, the whip they used on Jesus, full colour like you asked:
