I really wanted to go to the Scratch day celebration, but I live too far away. So, I thought i'd try to come up with a way that distant users can sort of go to the event. The first thing that came to mind was a video chat.
One day I came home from school and saw my mom watching the Oprah show on TV. Because the guest on the show could not attend, they used a video chat called Skype to talk to eachother. Could the Scratch team somehow set up a system that allows far away users to "visit" MIT for scratch day?
Post your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions.
Thanks!
I hope I can go next year...

It would be cool to go, but I have to much to do here. Seems like a god idea though.

WE say its a GOOD IDEA but think how unsafe it would be People who you are talking to could be a sexual harasser or a predator....but you should get your parents permission first ALWAYS. I think would say no because of the idea of videochatting with poeple you NEVER met but only know them online

Maybe we could use a normal chat? That way nothing serious would happen, right?

I like that idea, but what not instead of using scype (It costs money...) how about an open video chat onthe scratch website? The people that work at the media lab should know how to set one up.

this is a great idea... I have to go all the way to London to get tto my nearest hosting day and a video link would be great. Also, I reckon it would be great if someone recorded a video diary at each event and there was a place on the scratch website where people could upload and see the videos

I think you guys are confused.... Scratch Day isn't like an event where you're supposed to go to MIT if you live close enough. Its a holiday, celebrating Scratch. You can create your own events in your local area.
Anyway about the idea, I think it's really cool!

Yeah. For example, I live a long way from the MIT lab, but I can go to the Twin Cities one, since its' not to incredibly far away.

I agree that it would be a bit unsafe without your parent's permission. You know what's one way to get through that?
