supposedly there are certain objects that emit positive and negative ions which effect you and your moods or just your general state, positive ions are the bad ones actually, and your computer screens and TVs emit a lot of them, I can definitely say this is true because I am actually effected by it, I'm pretty sure you've noticed how much of a * person I am around these forums and that would be from the depression, depression is just one of the effects you can get from the positive ions, I don't know what the other effects are, but they're all bad, just might want to watch yourself on this

Ooooh-Kay.
So what are the positive ion givers?

Maybe it's just because you're a sad person.
Ions are charged particles. They are attracted to each other to form compounds. I don't see any solids, liquids or gasses being emmitted from my PC screen, so... Yeah.
The sunlight causes chemicals to be released in your brain to make you happier, though. Try sitting close to a window.

I'm sitting next to a window. But it's cloudy outside.

Awww... looks like somebody needs more serotonin. D: Eat lots of bananas. :-D Sport also helps.
And it's not the ions, it's probably just puberty. It happens to everyone.

It doesn't take me ten seconds to read that.

More like less than 1. You should see my reading scores on that brain training thing.
It's sad that I can't type that fast though. *sigh*

Darn, you beat me to the technical definition.
The postive/negative ion thing used in that context was probably only invented to sell your "postive-ion emitter placebo in disguise".

There's also something called Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) where the lack of sunlight causes depression.

It can be treated with special lights as well as some other approaches listed in the article.

Actually, most of the ions just dissipate. It is true that computer screens and TVs produce them. The old ones, meaning big fat CRT ones, certainly. Probably plasma ones, too. But LCD screens, and especially those with LED lighting produce no positive ions whatsoever. Although, if you really want to measure it, go on, put your screen in the LHC and put the beam through it. Who knows, maybe you've just found the way to teleport people around. Crazy things happen.
But no, I don't think it affects you. You just need serotonin. Go out, eat some fruits, just go away from the screen. It's not the ions, it's the light, which actually changes rapidly (normally 60 Hz, which is 60 times/minute) and flickers. Now that makes your brain go tired and sad. And makes your eyes hurt.

Wait, wait wait. POSITIVE ions make you feel negative, and NEGATIVE ions make you feel positive?
What sort of rubbish is this?

im not sure this is true. i am always happiest at a computer. idk

What the heck? Do you people even know what positive and negative ions are? They're used in chemical bonding, not emitted by the TV or computer or anything.
On a hypocritical note, that must be why I want to cut myself constantly.

Agreed.

You might want to see a doctor about that.
