There are a lot of resources out there to help a new user! Here's a list of tips and links to help get you started!

Resources
There are many guides made by various people to help new users learn scratch:

Official Guides and Videos

Videos: Watch videos about scratch to learn more about how to use it, interviews, and more!
Scratch Cards: Get inspiration and learn how to program certain aspects of a scratch projects!
Getting Started: Get started with a simple guide and video.
Reference Guide: Kind of like the scratch dictionary. Tells you everything about the scratch interface and scratch blocks.
Support page: More helpful information and links.

Forum Topics

Many of the topics in this section of the forum are helpful. Look for topics labelled "Sticky". These topics will give you lots of good hints and tips. I reccommend The New User's Handbook

Tutorials & Tips

Recently, the scratch team made a gallery of user submitted projects. You can veiw them here!

Tip: Once you learn about how the blocks work, try downloading other people's projects to see how they work. Start with some of the sample projects that come with scratch, and then go online and look at other people's projects! A good place to start is with some of Paddle2See's projects and some of the featured projects to get inspiration.
