This is not really helpful. (Message to the Scratch Team)

I was checking my profile just now and I found this warning:

Scratch Team wrote:

Please use respectful language and be constructive when posting to the Fourms. See the Terms of Use for details. Thank you!

It doesn't tell me what post it's referring to, so it is sort of difficult for me to learn what I need to be more respectful about. I try to be as nice as I can when I usually post, but everyone makes a couple of mistakes. I've used forums that don't enforce the rules as much Scratch does (swearing// being rude, etc.) so things that might not really seem that disrespecful in my head may offend lots of people. If you could somehow include my message that was offensive with any future warnings, it would be a great help for making me know on what kinds of things I should cut back on.

And the other thing: This has been discussed a lot before on another topic, but the Terms of Service doesn't really have any details. Unless it's been updated into a sophisticated set of rules in the past 24 hours when I haven't checked it, it's a broad message that tells Scratchers to not be disrespectful and use common sense. This has also been discussed but it doesn't really make it clear that the Scratch Forums fall under the Terms of Service, even though it should be ovbious that it does (some younger users might not realize though).

If you could work on these thing, it would be really helpful.
Thanks and Best Regards, Ace-Of-Spades.

Here’s something that might help you, the Terms of Use specify “do not be disrespectful” yes? So before you submit a post think to yourself “could this be disrespectful toward a fellow scratcher?”, if yes: do not submit it, it defies the Terms of Use, if no: good for you, you may post it. It’s very simple, I believe it falls under the category of “Use common sense”.  smile

Re: This is not really helpful. (Message to the Scratch Team)

Thanks for the useful feedback!  There are some discussions taking place about modifying the Terms of Use to better address Forum usage and possibly be more specific about desired behaviors.  Stay tuned  smile

As for including the text that triggered the notification...that would be a really nice feature to consider, if we ever more tightly integrate the forums with the notification mechanism.  Currently, the exact wording of the notification is left up to the administrator performing the task and it is a semi-manual operation.  We'll take your request under advisement.  Scratch On!

The problem is that different people have different ideas about what is "disrespectful". So that really is pointless to say use your common sense.

I believe the category of "Use common sense" does not exist. It is a suggestion, not a category.  smile

As I stated, I think carefully before I post, but it sometimes doesn't seem like it'll offend anyone since I have been exposed to much more 'bad' stuff, I guess as you'd call it.

it says he did that in the post though

He said he tries to be nice, but trying to be nice all the time and being nice all the time are two different thing. Anyway I’m sure he learned his lesson and will be more respectful from now on.  smile

Re: This is not really helpful. (Message to the Scratch Team)

It's not like I unintentionally slip or anything. Stop trying to make me into the bad guy, DavidTy. I am merely trying to help scratch become a better place, not whining about getting a warning as you seem to think I'm doing.

I know your not a bad guy and I never intended to portray you as such. I apologies for offending you, I did not realize and assure you it was not my intention.  sad

Oh yeah forgot to mention this at the beginning, but if this is in the wrong forum, could someone move it there? I placed it in I&M for it to get more attention.
