It was a windows XP laptop.

Try running the laptop using the administrator account...maybe you are running into a permissions problem.

...unless you are downloading the .zip or downloading 1.4.

Here's what I'd suggest:
1) Try downloading 1.2, and see if that works.
2) If not, try winscratch.
3) Next, try downloading the installer onto another computer, transfering it to a USB key, and running it on your mum's.
4) Try downloading it to another computer, installing it on that one, but to the key. Then, transfer the files to your mum's.
5) If all else fails, download the components from the Streak downloads page, and get the two plugins from the common components section, and one of the scratch images. Then, get the streak executable from the Streak homepage, and put it in the same folder as the other files. Drag the image file onto the executable, and it should then work.

If you still can't get it to work, respond with exactly which step you got up to, and what went wrong, so I can help you further.

Same thing is happening with me. I have 1.3 and the testing demo of 1.4 on my school computer, and I accidentally messed up the demo of 1.4, so I decided to get the full 1.4 like on my regular computer. When I try to open the installer for 1.4 it says "Installer integrity check has failed. Common causes include incomplete download and damaged media. Contact the installer's author to obtain a new copy".

Note: The School computer is at my house, because I do school on the internet instead of going to a school. (For all you folks who think that is weird, yes, I have been to public school.)

whoa i wouldn't last be at a comuter school thingy i would never meet any friends or even see my friends as much! how can you do that???
