New rule on the Scratch forums?

I wasn't sure where to post this, or if this rule was old or new, but since when did saying Last edited by (some mod) (time) as a joke become grounds for a permanent instant block?

Re: New rule on the Scratch forums?

I didn't even know this forum had rules (beside the obvious ones, no spamming, flaming, swearing etc.) Where can I find the list of scratch forum rules?

I don't think there is one... we use our common sense here.  wink

Mr_X... you say that you did a fake moderator edit and got blocked? I reported that post, but not because of the fake edit... it was because your post was 'spam'.

Re: New rule on the Scratch forums?

Still, scratch has no age limit, and I don't think 6 year olds would have too much common sense.

Someone should make a list of appropriate rules for the forums (unless of course there already is one), and put it in the New Members section. *nudges Chrischb and Jonathanpb, the guide guys*

I'm not embarrassed over a post. What are you, 5? Stop being immature
And no, I was not blocked. That post I made was an example of spam. Maybe I should have mentioned it... hehe. But that's not important.
I just got a message saying if I do it again, I'll be permanently blocked. Kind of harsh, don't you think?

I think if you review that message, you will see that the word "permanent" does not appear in it.   I doubt that faking a moderator message would result in a permanent block, unless there were other behavioral factors in the decision.  But, getting back to the issue at hand...faking a moderator action may seem like just an amusing prank, but it confuses people and is essentially a deceptive action.  Moderators have enough issues to deal with - they don't need people confusing things by saying they did things that they did not.  It's kind of like impersonating a police officer.

Re: New rule on the Scratch forums?

Permanent aside, there should still be something explaining that you can't
I mean, how should I know? I only did it once and right after I get a "Don't do it or you're banned >:(" message

Maybe the moderator was having a bad day  smile

A list of rules would probably be a good idea...let me look around and see if we already have one that can be posted.

Re: New rule on the Scratch forums?

Thanks for starting this discussion about rules. Do you think that the Terms of Use would cover most things related to the forums? It's kind of like "common sense" distilled into a few guidelines that apply to the whole of the Scratch website (including the forums).

http://info.scratch.mit.edu/Terms_of_use

It doesn't have anything specific about not making posts look like they're edited by mods, but then I guess that would kind of fall under the category of "being respectful."

Yes and I forgot to mention that I'm 17 and I didn't realize it, so the young ones might not either

Hey Lightnin, maybe there should be a Terms of Use for the forums?  wink

Re: New rule on the Scratch forums?

@Lightnin: Have you ever been to a PunBB-Hosting.com forum? When you register at one, usually a block appears with the forum's rules before you're allowed to access the forum, and there's an 'Agree' button that you must click to join. If you made it so that new members to the forums would get this message when they first enter the forum, it might help.

I dunno, I just click through those without really reading 'em. Don't you?  smile
Still, it's worth considering.

Maybe if you add like a picture or a joke to cath people's attentions then they would read to see if it has anything to do with the image?

Re: New rule on the Scratch forums?

But if it was there, it would be impossible for people to be ignorant to the rules because they were supposed to have read them. Also, there could be a sticky somewhere that repeats these rules in case anyone needs to recap on them.

If it's possible, you could also add a captcha code to the forum first entry page, or place a 'Type the answer in here' box, and in the middle of the list of rules, add a sentence that says 'The answer is bacon' or something.
