SCRATCH SURVEY MUAHAHAHA! Click here or perish!

Ok, so this survey isn't just from me, it's also from Blade-edge.
Blade says he couldn't get Paint.net to work and says he heard it's better then Gimp 2.6 which he has. I was told by someone however that Gimp 2.6 is better then Paint.net, and what with all this Scratch survey junk around, it's a good way to get a public opinion about this kind of thing.
So, what do you prefer, Paint.NET or Gimp 2.6?
If you used both, then tell us which is better, and if you only used one, tell us which it is.

Fireworks CS4. Yes - it's not on the list but it's better than photoshop, gimp and that Paint .net thing.

Paint.net I would have to say, because it is super-simple yet effective.  I use it for my more artistic sprites

Blade-Edge says thanks he'll go check it out

They can give you an 80% student discount
I looked it up after I told him and I found all the prices for used disks were higher then new ones

Re: SCRATCH SURVEY MUAHAHAHA! Click here or perish!

GIMP is more professional than Paint.NET and has more tools, but personally I prefer Paint.NET because it's easier for me to use, and it's good when you don't have a tablet.

Well, don't worry about it, the Zara siggy will be back soon, new and improved! ^^ Meanwhile, just do what the sig tells you to. >.>

Re: SCRATCH SURVEY MUAHAHAHA! Click here or perish!

I use both, and I honestly don't have an opinion of which is better. I use them for different things.

Gimp I use to edit actual photos because I'm reluctant to buy Photoshop and all that expensive stuff

Paint.NET I use when I scan in my drawings. That's what I use to "ink" the drawing (filling the outline with black) and color it. Works really nice, actually.

So I really don't have a preference, considering I use them for completely different things.

There's no such tool. You have to use the Oval Select tool and go to the "select" menu, and select "stroke selection."

Re: SCRATCH SURVEY MUAHAHAHA! Click here or perish!

It depends on what you want to use them for. GIMP is Photo Manipulation Software, if you want to edit a photo or make something like my sig(which I mad with GIMP) then GIMP is without a doubt a better choice. Paint.Net is a mostly drawing program, so if you want to draw a picture or maybe make sprites, then I'd say Paint.Net is a better choice. Overall I'd say GIMP is better, though it is not as user friendly, it can do a lot more than Paint.net, it is pretty much limitless graphic wise.

Well, that just makes it unreasonably complicated.

That's why I like Paint.net, its so simple.

Re: SCRATCH SURVEY MUAHAHAHA! Click here or perish!

Well, GIMP and Paint.Net are very different programs. GIMP is so much more powerful, but Paint.Net is so much more easy to use. Paint.Net is faster with drawings and things like that and has easy to use tools, but if you want to use a bunch of cool effects and customizable brushes, GIMP has a ton of effects and you can get even more. It is just a bit harder to use. I use GIMP for my logo request thread.

GIMP. I'm actually drawing out a picture of a wolf howling on a mountain as I write this. And GIMP works with or without a tablet (I have tried with both). It's fairly easy to use once you get the hang of it. It's easier than another program that I have used - OpenCanvas - and it gives very realistic effects (my favourite is the smudge tool - I draw snow quite a lot). From what I've seen of Paint.net, the effects do look as if they were rushed when it was being made - they're just a little too unrealistic for me.

I use both, I make the basic shapes with paint.NET and coloring and effects with The GIMP.

Re: SCRATCH SURVEY MUAHAHAHA! Click here or perish!

Paint.Net is preferred for simple art. It’s tool are all easy to use, however there are only 22 of them and they are all rather basic but the layout is very user friendly. GIMP is more along the lines of professional graphics disign, effects and quality wise, it is a big step up from Paint.Net. GIMP has much more advanced tools/effects and as such it is preferred for advanced art.  smile

GIMP 2:

I use seashore!
(Ihaveamac)
Seashore has some graphic effects, and you can sprite in it.

Paint.net seems to be better for spriting. ^_^
