I'm asking this question, because I want to learn more about the community and aim myself in a better direction of what I add and change for my games.
So what are your expectations for a scratch project? What features of it do you like best, that are often what make you click love-it or favorite it? In addition, answer these types of questions while mentioning what type of projects your talking about. This is because you might have different expectations for an animation than a simulation.
My opinion on games and simulations:
I generally focus less on the parts that make project sizes bigger. That means music and graphics. This is because sometimes some really good projects would have music and high quality graphics, but they don't because that would make the file size too big. The only real exception to me are pen projects, because they draw it, so I have lower expectations, so something 3D in another program might be interesting, but to see it in scratch I would be amazed.
Instead, I generally look a lot at the programming, because I look for smart projects. It shows that the person worked hard and what not, and used scratch's capabilities. Although even if the project may be advanced, I might have possibly been able to do it, and possibly a lot simpler and efficiently, so I'm not as impressed.
My opinion on animations and art:
The chance of my favoriting (I never love projects evur) one of these projects are about 80% lower. Because of generally my expectations seen above.
Although I do have some differences. As far as how funny it may be, I always like when I end up laughing. But what I generally don't like is when people take recordings like music or actual talking from movies or tv shows, and animate it differently to make it funny in a different way. Its just unoriginal to me.
Believe me when I see somebody draw a really good picture and put it on the front page, I admire it, but I don't like it because it is not using scratch's abilities. Just put it on another website. Or even rather, make a slideshow or greeting card out of it and add a little music. But some people still can't seem to do it.
Share your opinions on what you like about projects and stuff, as I mentioned above

I don't really care about all that stuff because Scratch is about expressing yourself...not making the best project.
Obviously you didn't really read what I said...
And obviously you must have something more to say. Just saying "it must be creative" could possibly mean you'd like a chain remix project which asks you to add yourself smoking.
What do you like, what impresses you? This is all about normal projects. If you think I'm trying to be critique, about the best project, I'm not...

Exactly! I want projects that have a lot of math in them and that you can learn from. It gets me inspired and eager. I like looking at top scratchers new best games/tutorials/simulations to learn more. About.....1/5 projects I will download. I hate the things with minimal scripting.
Some expectations:
In a game:
I would like it to have fairly decent graphics, a average (at least) storyline/plot, and probably some good sprites. (depends on game)
Others:
Probably just something that is entertaining and made thoughtfully.

I really don't expect anything on Scratch anymore. Maki-Tak's new project is just a picture...no music or anything. And it is #1 Recently Viewed. If I spent 5 years straight making a project that would be above and beyond Scratch projects, it would still be less popular then that one picture.

That happened with present pop. Hopefully it will not happen with Bomberman.

......Gosh, you are being rather rude.
I like creative things with thought and time put into them, good art, and when it gives a appropriate message.

Quality over quantity. It's not good to have a project that lasts < 2 seconds, but projects that are thrown together and generally unattractive (especially ones that get on the frontpage) are just annoying. I'm not talking about just graphics here, I also mean projects that don't look like the creator actually tested it and have so many bugs you can't play it.

I like games much more than art/animation projects. Its much more interesting to play a game than it is to look at a pretty picture.
Several key points in a game impress me:
Velocity- Not much, I know, but the average scratcher doesn't use this, and it makes games tons smoother. It's that extra touch that says, "I was actually spending time on this."
A Reason- I have seen so many games where you run across a big level to get to a block that says "You Win!". Why? I like games with some story to them.
Innovation- This comes in many forms: Innovative objectives, enemies, levels, gimmicks, etc. Basically, something used that is creative, and practical.

A menu and hand drawn graphics. I hate it when some who can draw really well uses "Jumping Jack" or "the Fortune Cookie" in one of thir funnest games. I'd rather there be a an ugly drawn stick figure than a fortune cookie in a game. I just like menus, though, its a nice touch

I do love hand-drawn graphics. Or quality art.

HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY SAY ADRIANGL WAS BEING RUDE. What planet did you come from. Really. Just tell me. Nao.
As nice as it is, it's not usingi scratch's capabilities. I think if Maki-Tak is such a good artist, she should just use devain-art. Not much programming really.
And as far as I can tell, when people make requests, they're just so they can see what the artist can make, and not actually use it in a game. Its just a waste.
As far as I can see, you have the wrong look at scratch. Because people told you about it the wrong way. "Scratch was made for animations, interactive art, simulations and games". And I think some people aren't listening to the context clues; 'equally'. Its unfair that most people just care for a quick laugh, and not about the real effort put.
For exactly in that "Butter" project of Maki-Tak's, obviously that drawing wasn't exactly professional, and that recording was made a long time ago, and she said that she did the easiest requests first, so she just whipped that up in a second.
If I was able to comment on it, I would say "Not much depth in this project".

I think that animators that are getting a lot of publicity are starting to get arrogant and think that they're the best thing that happened to scratch.

And it's only because probably when others told them about scratch, they were told it's probably great for animations and stuff, when they never even thought about programming. So when they hear about this new thing called 'games' and 'simulations', they think they've been on scratch for such a long time and they haven't known about it, so it must be such a small thing.

Maki does have a dA. And this is NOT just a programming site. Seriously!
Deviantart allows art, literature, animations, and GAMES. I hope you open your minds up a little.

Deviant--==::{{ART}}::==--
It means artistic games that are based on creativity. Scratch is for INTERACTIVE art and animations.

Rude? This happens to almost everybody. They spend time on a project that is fun and creative, and an actual project, and then it gets beaten by a picture. A picture is not a project....

I never said this is just a programming site. But its just unfair that the percentage of popularity between the two are:
Animation: 80%
Programming: 20%
On the forums, its the other way around, but generally animation stuff is a lot more popular on the main website. It should be like this in my opinion:
Animation: 45%
Programming 55%
Also I don't really know devainart very well. So I decided to look at the site some more when you said that, and THERE ARE HARDLY ANY GAMES.
