Re: Html/Website building Topic!

HTML reminder: When linking to other sites, ALWAYS put in http:// at the beginning, otherwise it'll think you're linking to a page on the site.

Adriangl, do you know of a good free hoster? Preferably with lots of pages?

It will just be easier to create the site if I can set the links into it already, and for that I need to get it started.

x10hosting.
Build your own HTML file, upload it, free, no ads.

The only restriction is that you have to be "active" or it'll hate your guts.

Re: Html/Website building Topic!

Geez, why do people have to buy dumb old servers?  I would rather get a free server.

Oh, what great news, I have to memorize all of HTML to use it...  tongue

I don't feel like memorizing anything, but I want to make a site with commenters for absolutely nothing...

To write the code, use notepad for windows and I am not sure for Macs. Anyways when you want to see what you have made, save the document as a .htm Then open up your internet. Click in the following order: File-->Open-->Browse-->The file you saved it as. Then your webpage pops up.

I would use google docs for that. the good thing about google docs is that it's free and you can access it anywhere as long as there's no firewall against it.

If anyone needs help with HTML, CSS, Javascript, or PHP, you can just ask me!

here's one.
can I embed a scratch game into a javascript alert box?

So when someone clicks a button, the alert box comes up and there is a Scratch project on it? I will go test that and then give you the code.

Sorry if I acted like a big-shot, but I really don't know the correct way to do that, sorry  sad

Here's the script.

Code:

<script type="text/javascript">
alert('text or code here')
</script>
<noscript>Enable javascript in your browser to view an important message.</noscript>

Okay then, how do I do it?

I found this code in the w3schools website (If you were asking about the random Quotes). This example is just the beginning.

Code:

<html>
<body>

<script type="text/javascript">
var r=Math.random();
if (r>0.5)
{
document.write(" "As long as these pants are square, and this sponge is bob, I will not let you down!"- Spongebob Squarepants ");
}
else
{
document.write(" I'm trying Bodygaurd, but my feet are stuck in your corneas."- Spongebob Squarepants. ");
}
</script>

</body>
</html>

If you had 3 comments, you would use the decimal for 1/3, or 0.33, I belive.

That's the same code I found! But I don't think it was Spongebob....

Quite. Easy, free, adless.

But activity is the BIIIIIIG restriction though. I had a site there complete with an rss feed, scratch projects, info, contact, the "circalc" and the "tricalc" (area calculators I made in my beginning days with C++) , and a bunch more. Then they burned it all down and took it away since I didn't visit every so often.  sad

I know,same thing happened to me. That's why I use T35, free, great hosting, with only a few ads, and there is a lot of space.

XHTML isn't a whole new language, just a few codes in the head and a change of other codes. It is the same for the most part, just a little cleaner.

Re: Html/Website building Topic!

html is really easy but thats not all you need to have a great site, great sites use plenty of css and other languages as well as sometimes incorporating adobe flash into it.  i think newgrounds.com probably does this.

It wasn't. I found code for a random link and I changed it to this for quotes. Those were what I came up with. w3schools is good because w3 something approves all programming languages to be compatible with the internet.

Edit: I tried the code but it didn't work!
You could get around this by using If: Else: (what are they called? Objects?) for time or something. I'm starting to like javascript because you don't need < and> for everything.

Re: Html/Website building Topic!

W3 offers a lot of commonly used codes, but whereas for teaching, it is not so great.
