deleting scratch 1.3 to upgrade to scratch 1.4

I downloaded scratch 1.4 quite a while a go, and I came across this problem...
I can upload 1.4 projects just fine, but I can't download them. All the projects I download, including 1.4 ones, show up on scratch 1.3 since that was the program my computer was originally told to veiw scratch programs.
___________________________________________________

I tried to solve this problem. I figured I'd just delete 1.3. Then the computer won't know how to show a scratch project and it'll ask me what program to use. Then I'd tell it to use 1.4. Simple right? Unfortunatly, not quite. Every time I try to delete 1.3 to solve this problem, this error message shows up:

Error Deleting File or Folder Cannot delete addlist.gif:

Access is denied.
Make  sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently  in use.

Does anybody know how to delete/uninstall scratch 1.3 or to get my computer to use 1.4 ?( I use windows. I'm not sure if this makes a difference but just in case.)

Re: deleting scratch 1.3 to upgrade to scratch 1.4

What OS do you use?

EDIT: saw that.

RIGHT-Click on an .SB file, then select "open with".
It should take you to this:

Remember to check(always use selected program).

Then press "browse". Browse to C:/Program Files(or Program Files(x86))/Scratch/.

Select Scratch(make sure it is 1.4) and press Open and OK, and you should be done!

You can't just drag 1.3 into the recycle bin?

That's what he did before, but then it didn't recognize what to open with.

Re: deleting scratch 1.3 to upgrade to scratch 1.4

Ok. Here's how to fix the problem
Go: Start ---> Run
Type in: "regedit" (without quotes)
You should come across something like this
http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/8494/scratchregisty2.png
Click on the "+" on "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT"
Scroll down until you see "Scratch Project"
Open That
Then "Shell"
Then "Open"
Then "Command"
You should see somthing like this
http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/2983/scratchregistry.png
This is where you must be very Careful And don't Stuff this up.

See Where The red circle is. The text inside that is the image file that scratch will open when you open a project.

Now find the image file you want to open instead (1.4)

Copy that the image files location and past it into notepad
and Click on "(Defult)" in the registry editor and copy that text into notepad too.
Now hi-light and copy the new loaction and past it over the old like this
http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/9282/scratchregisty3.png
(Make sure to keep a backup copy of the original text in the registry editor in case something goes wrong)
After making sure that the new location is right and everything else copy the text in notepad and click on defult again. Delete the text that's there and past in the new text.

Now test it out on a Scratch project
Double click on a Scratch Project and it should open up in 1.4 and not 1.3
===============================
Please tell me if this helped. If it does maybe it can be sticked

Or, simply uninstall both and install 1.4.

This worked for me up until the "red circle" part. I could not find the red circle. I use windows xp and maybe that has something to do with it. What do I do?

I put the red circle in to show you what needs to be changed.
http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/2983/scratchregistry.png
You must double click on "(defult)" and copy all the text.
past it into notepad

Then find the scratch image of version 1.4.
right click on it and go properties.
Copy the location into notepad
http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/1087/imageqq.jpg
add "\Scratch.image" to the location

In notepad copy the location of the new scratch image and past it over the old like this.
http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/9282/scratchregisty3.png

Copy all of the text.
Double click on "(defult)"
delete the text that's there
and past the new text.

I hope this solves your problem. Please check the steps a number of times and back up everything before you change it.

I see. I didn't know what you were talking about because for some reason your screenshots weren't showing up on my computer.

Do you have images from ImageShack blocked?

Try This:
Right click on the image, go to "Properties", and copy the url of the image and paste the url on the the address bar. It should show the image then.
