Increase File Size Limit?

I've seen a few projects that suffered from huge file size, and had to be uploaded to a different media hosting site like MegaUpload or Mediafire. Although the Scratchers did put a link to the download, but still, I think that Scratch should increase the limit.

Instead of 10 MB, probably you could make it 15, or 20. That way, experienced programmers, or even beginners, can make their very own long projects.

Re: Increase File Size Limit?

The limit is because of the Java player. If it was any bigger, it wouldn't be able to play projects.

Re: Increase File Size Limit?

We don't need any more space online. The problem is the projects themselves, which can grow a few MB by adding one song, even after you compress it. (That's why I almost never add sound to my projects.) Even just having large scripts becomes a problem eventually.

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

Re: Increase File Size Limit?

10 megabytes is very large. The only problem is that people pack tons of large music into every thing they make! This is ridiculous. Just make your project without music, then see what you can add.

It still uploads.. it's just that the Java Player won't work - but you can download the project anyway and view the project there.

Re: Increase File Size Limit?

Maybe he/she wanted to bring it up...  hmm

I'm still against the idea - but maybe in 2.0 there will be a change (there won't be the finicky Java Player).

Re: Increase File Size Limit?

For now: 10MB is lots... just don't add lots of music tracks.

Re: Increase File Size Limit?

We need more file size. The big game I was supposed to release last year was HUGE. Even though it had no sound whatsoever, it still wouldn't load D:

Meh - my project that's less than 1 megabyte and has no sound doesn't loadtongue  Well, every once in a while it does, but it is completely messed up.  sad
