Html/Website building Topic!

A long time ago Adriangl posted this; so here it is again:

A long time ago Bobby500(TheSaint) posted this, then the forum died. So here it is again.

What is HTML?
HTML: Stands for "Hyper-Text Markup Language". A simple markup language (actually, the only one). This means that you can't actually program anything with it, but you can embed programming languages into it. The base for all web developing.

What is CSS?
CSS: Stands for Cascading Style Sheets. An expansion to HTML. Makes life easier and more stylish.

What is Javascript?
JavaScript: A scripting language. You can do stuff with it, but being text-based, having more image-based stuff is harder to do. IT IS NOT SPRITE-BASED BUT FUNCTION BASED. However, it is client-side, so making a website with users (e.g. and online community, perhaps a forum) is impossible.

What is PHP?
PHP: Stands for "Php: Hypertext Processor". Almost exactly the same as JavaScript but a bit more open-ended, and ServerSide, so having online communities and so-such is possible.

Well how do I use it?
To write the code, use notepad for windows and I am not sure for Macs. Anyways when you want to see what you have made, save the document as a .htm Then open up your internet. Click in the following order: File-->Open-->Browse-->The file you saved it as. Then your webpage pops up.

Re: Html/Website building Topic!

Actually, I do.  lol
I was wanting to build a site, but I have two problems:
1. I have forgoten all of my html prowess.
2. I don't know what to make it about. I was thinking Enviromental, or physics, or maybe some kind of game site if I could enlist some flash users.

You could just embed scratch games, and they will look like java games.

Only if the site goes well. I mean if I can get it to look good and stuff. Then yes, I can pay for it.

If you do get a server, I could help you create a user reading log/ review section. A user can type and post a review of a book.

Lazy? HTML is really simple. Go here-http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/tut/lessons.html. I think-along with others- that it is the best tutorial. It gives you a website to make, so that you learn how different things work, and some tips.

They don't go really advanced, here you can test and you know when you did something wrong.

Re: Html/Website building Topic!

Eh,  I don't think I will do that reading site. I will try and stay away from the php, at least for a while. I think a game site will work best for me. Not scratch games though.

Coaconut, what will you build using flash?

I think a game website would be easy. Flash or console? And reviews, or are they on your website?

Flash, on website. Doubt I could do reviews, I don't play very many games.

PHP isn't meant for this stuff. Quotes is javascript.

To write the code, use notepad for windows and I am not sure for Macs. Anyways when you want to see what you have made, save the document as a .htm Then open up your internet. Click in the following order: File-->Open-->Browse-->The file you saved it as. Then your webpage pops up.

I would use google docs for that. the good thing about google docs is that it's free and you can access it anywhere as long as there's no firewall against it.

here's one.
can I embed a scratch game into a javascript alert box?

So when someone clicks a button, the alert box comes up and there is a Scratch project on it? I will go test that and then give you the code.

Sorry if I acted like a big-shot, but I really don't know the correct way to do that, sorry  sad
