Here are some suggestions I think would make the forum better:
1) Fame.
How it works: Each new player starts out with 10 fame. They get one fame for every one forum post they make. Once a day a player can give out fame. The player can also, for example, get fame for i)getting something stickied ii) for getting a featured projects and other accomplishments. You can also get fame by winning a contest. For example, if you are hosting a contest, right now the only prize you could give out, is say, a love-it. Whoopty-doo. But with fame you can say "The winner get 10 fame, 2nd place gets 5 and third gets 1." Every day a player can either subtract fame from a player if they don't like them or can add fame. Of course, if someone made multiple accounts they could exploit it, so maybe you can change some details.
2)A PM box. I notice that many people who just want to give the person a message have to comment on that projects. With a PM box you can welcome players to the site and other players can send messages to them.

1) Hmmm.... Well, similar stuff has already been suggested in the past. Lets not forget that rating systems might be quite discouraging, especially for younger users. Since one of the main purposes of Scratch is to inspire creativity, I think it needs a friendly and welcoming atmosphere free of competition. ^^

2) Private Messaging has also been suggested in the past and was rejected by the Scratch Team.

Hi there turtlewarrior,

It's a very good thing that you want to improve the forums!

But I don't think number one on your list would do it, as MyRedNeptune stated the main purpose of Scratch is creativity and not fame.
And also, users could start 'faming down' the oher users they don't like, which hurts feelings.

I agree that we need a PM box, but the fame could lead to unfriendly ccompetition.

The PM box has been rejected and will be forever. There will be no private messaging on scratch.

I believe both of these were suggested before. ( Especially PMing ) Neither will happen as far as I'm concerned. Cause Reputation ( or fame ) will have people trying to get more of it. And if someone has a low amount, they'll leave. Also, please read Suggestions that have been resolved already. It has a lot of info about certain suggestions that won't happen and I believe why they won't happen.

1. Fame is just going to start a war. Plus, if you got fame for every post, wouldn't we get tons of spam?

2. The Scratch Team have already said no to this.
