Luigi is a pro's character. He sides more than Mario which makes a lot of levels much harder. Overall Mario is better and Luigi's better jump isn't worth the lost traction.

I can definately see that in Super Mario Galaxy. He's a lot harder.
Of course I was just considering coolness, and looks lolz. Though they're both pretty even.
