Top 5 Things To Improve

Hey y'all.

If anyone's listening who's in on future versions of Scratch, here are the Top 5 things I think needs to be improved. What do you think? What's your Top 5 Things to Improve!
Post a reply!

#5 - Sound
The sound conversion to mono is kinda a pain, but a bit of compression and/or a few clicks in Audacity can sort this. But I really would like to see MIDI support added - believe it or not, I know a few MIDIs that sound really good! Some Super Mario World MIDIs sound like the real thing!

#4 - Blocks
Now Scratch isn't lacking horribly in choice, and there's not block that I always think 'Why don't they have that???' But a few more could be really convinient, like an 'Unless' block instead of having to say If - Not - Blah. Like forever if, this would just make programming one bit easier.

#3 - Support
Using the mouse and keyboard for two player is GREAT. But it's obvious that arrow keys are nothing compared to the mouse for control. Maybe a bit of support for joysticks, USB devices?

Oh, and imagine how AWESOME games could get if AVI support was added!

#2 - Examples
Imaging this. You've just downloaded Scratch, and for ideas, you look in the Examples folder, and you get???
Sorry guys, but the example projects are hardly masterpieces. They just seem a bit rushed - here's an idea - how about a competition on Scratch to be in the Examples folder of the next version?

Okay, I've whined a fair bit now, but let's recap.

#5 - More Sound Support
#4 - More Convinient Blocks
#3 - More Support
#2 - Less Rushed Examples!

And at number one:

#1 - The Website Player

Do I really need to say this? The website player is a JOKE! Sorry, but what's the point of uploading your project if it looks like it died on the way to cyberspace?
Please. If nothing else, improve the website player.
Please.

EDIT: Oh, here's one more thing. if you want to take a project to your friend's house and he doesn't have Scratch, why don't we have an executable so that it can run?

EDIT 2: Forget I mentioned AVI support - I've tried using seperate images as frames and it lags like heck. I still think MIDI would be awesome though.

Re: Top 5 Things To Improve

Neat!

Will this work with Scratch 1.4, and does the converter work?

This looks amazing.  smile

EDIT: Yes it does... oh my gawd...

I have to agree with sound You can't seem to change the volume. It's of no use.

Re: Top 5 Things To Improve

The scratch team should pick some additional projects from the How to gallery and put those in.

The sample projects are intended to be simple projects that inspire people to improve them and remix them. They are not intended to show very advanced uses of Scratch, for that you can come to the website  wink

I still think the addition of an "Advanced" folder would not be a bad idea.  smile

Also a way to delete projects from inside the program... that would save time.

Re: Top 5 Things To Improve

Yeah - I really hope the guys at Scratch are listening in!

Here's one thing - 2 player games. The keyboard hardly gives control over games to the extent that a mouse does. So how about support for USB?

The pacman doesn't even work... I think we should have something that shows how a simple project (easily modified) can be fun, and make sure that the projects work. I've tried pacman in 1.3 and it can't even move.

Yeah. The PacMan background images are all blurry, so they don't work properly.
