There's always someone bumping old topics for no reason. Particularly new users will go to the last page (or some random number) and find a random topic.
Their post?

Sometimes they have a reason to bump the thread, but most of the time, not. So here's my suggestion: What if, when you post in a topic that hasn't been posted in for a month (stickies don't count), your browser gives you an alert saying "This topic has been inactive for more than a month. Are you sure you want to bump it? (Yes) (No)" or something along those lines. It wouldn't completely stop people from bumping, but you have a chance to think twice. Feel free to suggest changes to this.

I am tired of reporting threads that have been bumped for no reason and are now updated. I agree with you that it wouldn't completely stop them, but it's a nice idea.

Great idea! Of course, stupid people won't care, they won't even have a think.

I've got no problem with people bumping old topics...as long as the post they are adding is directly related to the old topic. It does bother me when people post to topics that bear no relation to the what they are posting.
Maybe we need a Topic Hijack filter. That would be a challenge. Example:
"The post you are submitting appears to bear no relation to the topic you are posting on. Would you like to create a new topic in one of these forums?"
...and then it would give a list of forums.
Good luck trying to come up with a workable algorithm for the filter though.

How about there is a filter for posts with only blocks,or only links and no text? Those are mostly spam.
