I'm off scratch for 2 days and have 55 messages in total! That's 25 more, and 2/5 were " added as friend ". Can there be any way to stop this?! Post some ideas. ( Sorry if in wrong forum. I've only been a member for 14 days, or 15. I don't know xD)

It is random when people add you as a friend and you haven't seen them before. I have 39 people add me as a friend in about 2 weeks. I don't think you can do anything to stop it unless you block everyone who you don't want adding you as a friend.

My idea would be for, when somebody adds you to their list, you get a message asking you to "approve" or "reject" the request. If you approve, you would be added to their friends list, any they would be added to yours. If you reject, nobody wound be added to anyone's friends list.
Also, you should be able to block people from adding you as a friend.
But I have no power, so I can't put these features in place.

I don't add them back. I know it'd be rude, but accept/reject is much better. If they want to be my friend, you need this...
1. Be nice
2. Follow the rules
3. Like scratch
4. Talk with me
5. Sometimes - Like my interest/projects

Of course. I want that idea. And alot of others do too! It's not JUST your idea! But thanks for bringing it up, on this topic.

My advice:
Check your other messages first. If someone commented on your projects saying nice things, and then added you as a friend, I would add them back. If not, just ignore it. Some people do it for popularity because they think that when people go to add them back they will also look at their projects.

Yup, this happens to me often. I get messages very rarely, so I usually get excited when I get one, but then, when I click the link to check my messages, I see that my message is (random user) has added you as a friend. It's a pretty big disappointment for me, because I had hoped that someone had commented on one of my projects. It is very annoying to me when random people add me to their friends list.

People add me as a friend all the time! I don't really care too much though.

Me three!
The first one I added as a friend. I've also gotten a couple other "spinoff" ones that I didn't and won't ever add as a friend.

I think the accept/reject feature was suggested before, but it seems the asymmetrical friend system will remain in place. Andresmh had commented on this issue before, correlating with how most Scratchers equate "friends" with "fans":
When I think of friendships in Scratch I think it's more like fans. Someone adds you as a friend to see your projects on their front page...
(Source: http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=176519#p176519)
For some reason, I find that somewhat disturbing, especially when there is already an RSS feed that allows Scratchers to keep track of someone's projects. I wish there was a way for Scratchers to distinguish between who they view as a friend and who they view being a fan of; perhaps having both a friends and fans list would be an interesting idea.
An earlier suggestion that andresmh brought up earlier was a features that would remove friend notifications from your message center, allowing you to ignore them:
Perhaps what we could do is to let you select whether or not you want to be notified. This is what twitter does.
(source is same as one above).
I think the above suggestion could be a good idea, helping to clean up the message center a bit.

I would actually like that feature. I've unusually have people who have otherwise left negative messages on my project page, yet have also added me as a friend... and yet they label me as a friend despite me having added them to my ignore list!

Happened to me too. I don't care for it that much though.
Unless it's someone who hates my projects.

Ok, 4 things:
1. Wow, you are a relatively new member yet you get 50 messages in 2 days?
2. People randomly add you as a friend if they like your projects, so they must be good.
3. It doesnt matter, because they dont show up on YOUR friend list.
4. I would be happy if I was such a new Scratcher and I already have that many people adding me.
