I think that instead of running an sb file on the Java Player Scratch should compile the code into raw Java with Scratch-API modifications. This would see a massive increase in performance as the Java program would not have to decode the commands before it executes them, but instead execute them immediately without checking through every block for what one it is. Scratch applications could possibly be compiled into Locally executable .jar files this way, too.
If you compare scratch's speed to the speed of many other Java Applications then you can notice this difference greatly.

i gave the idea months ago but nobody bother btw hav u seen the performance of squek it runs far faster then scratch I think Byob Gives u an Ability to Edit Scratch Basic Blocks just check the defination its unusually long and slow downer

i think u should see the defination cause removing some extra coding will improve ur things performance
and btw Gale 3d gives a blazing FPS at C++
i got 120 Frames persecond on C++
