As much as these people are trying to set an example, its really not required, and it gets on my nerves. And believe me its not that they just do this to me. And also, "They" refer to lots of people that include if you're reading this because you're active on the forums, is one of your friends on scratch.
I'm not saying that these users are doing a good thing, but they'll learn after a while, and find it useless and stop doing it. Just ignore it. Its not like an actual noise, that brings up your petulance. Its a piece of text. Really...
If you're trying to be a mod, it only proves you desperate, and they're not going to be getting any more mods unless one of them stops using scratch, or if the forums become crowded.
Also for me, I know some people complain against me, in these 2 years, against things I say. The odds are that if you find something offensive (like I make a comment about somebody), than its a joke, and I never meant for it to be a mean comment. And complain against my bad humor all I want, but I'm a human and I try my best... about 9/10 of those comments make are against people that I'm actually friends with. If there was a way that I could show sarcasm in some of the things I say, than I could.
Don't be all jerky,
Chris

I agree and disagree with this
Reporting a post/thread so a mod can fix it is always the best option. But reminding a new user that what they have posted "May" be spam seems ok with me
.
The real problem is when you have 6 different members replying to the same post with "Spammer" and then arguing with everyone because someone has spammed

A mod generally won't delete a post if its spam, so saying its spam won't completely help.
Anyway, true true. I forgot to mention the second thing. I hear you

Thats really good. I agree with that. Actually, I've been starting a forum and this would be a really good story. My forum is called 'Scratch news.' Might you be interested in a Reporter position? I would be temporary but I'd love to have a good writer like you. Thanks!

I agree. It's really annoying when someone says one thing and someone has to be all moddy. It doesn't help, usually the person ignores them.

It always sounds so fake. Even when the moderators do it.

That's "mini modding" and it isn't allowed on most forum communities.

-_- Glad it isn't. If someone's causing problems, they should be told OUTSIDE the forums. Moderators act all happy and polite as a mod, and on a different website completely different.

I disagree. For one thing, there's the Report button, so we can all report things. That already is partly like being a moderator. Then there's the bit about posting (telling them not to do what they just did), which is actually telling them about their mistake so they don't do it again. That's also sort of like a moderator.
Don't you think people might report things and post those things to help? Whenever I report something, I'm trying to help.
What makes you think that everyone helps so they'll become a moderator? I help, but I know that there are enough moderators and that I won't become one. And there's more people than me that think the same way, I'm sure.

It works. I know because I look like this in real life.
Personally I think you should just leave the telling-off to the moderators. I really don't like people who "Suck Up" to admins of sites. The report button is there for a reason - not the same reason as the Reply button.

@Cocoanut: Yeah.
@technoguyx: I never knew that. Thanks for telling me.
@Jonathanpb: Maybe our definitions of moderator are different. Mine is
Moderator: A person of higher rank within a forum or community, who's job is specifically to keep people from spamming, and being rude, and to remove innapropriate content.
@RHY: Lol. Thanks for the feedback
I totally agree with you. There is a report button for a reason, and god gave us the knowledge to have an idea, to create it and put it into use, so use it.

i hate when people say that, they're not a mod, i'm gonna take a quote from dane cook for this "I say God bless you by the way, not bless you, because you know, i'm not "the lord" I can't just go around blessing people all the time"
yes it doesnn't fit perfectly but who cares because dane cook is funny and i think im getting my poinst across.

i've never said that to anyone
but then again, i've come across none

I honestly disagree.
As a member of the Scratch community, I think we are empowered and encouraged to help monitor the site.
As MyRedNeptune stated:
MyRedNeptune wrote:
Being a Forum moderator doesn't really add much to the help you can give to the Scratch community. The only thing is that moderators have more authority.
But you can offer great help to the community nonetheless and be respected for it as much as any moderator.
I take that to mean you can do whatever a moderator does, however with the inability to edit and delete others' posts.

Hello Scratch Team,

I think you may need more than 30 posts to be considered. Asking to be a mod probably won't do much anyways.
All the people who asked to moderators didn't become one. And, all the moderators were selected out by the Scratch Team.
Also --> You don't need to be a moderator to make Scratch a "safer, funner" place. You can do that now!
The part I highlighted at the end signifies the importance of that quote. "You can do that now" indicates that, without being a forum moderator, you can help, which I take to mean, again: doing what moderators can do.
Here's a little something from mletreat:

It's great to hear that you'd like to help make Scratch a better place for everyone. We encourage everyone in the Scratch community to help monitor the site. There are lots of ways that each person can help.
You can help others in the Scratch community find interesting and creative projects by adding tags, writing comments, answering & asking questions, and creating galleries.
Also, you all can help to make Scratch a friendlier place by flagging inappropriate projects and comments. We rely on the community to help us identify projects and comments that should be reviewed and/or removed.
Finally, you can inspire your peers by creating cool projects and sharing them!
With the help of each of you, we hope to keep Scratch a safe and fun place for everyone!
Again, monitoring the site: What I take to mean helping out with spam, commercial advertisements, et cetera.
I hope that's enough to prove my point....

True, but if a moderator came on and shouted.

It would probably sound strange

Yes, but I think its just more of, that the same obvious abnormally happy messages that non-mods say (mods are creative and give different messages stating not to spam), and I find that actually a bit disrespectful, to say that to somebody.
