Okay, I'll put this in greater detail here.

Look at the Advanced Topics page... don't you see plenty of topics that don't fit that? And they don't get moved... so it doesn't seem like that. Though it should be.

What? My point was that plenty of topics in Advanced Topics don't fit the description... so I was asking. You're saying the opposite.

Oh, now I get you. Yup, I have no idea why random things end up in advanced topics, I guess many more people have no idea.

Often newbies don't know where to post at first, but look at all of those topics that don't belong in Advanced Topics! Most of those posters probably think "Well, my topic is advanced, because of [excuse goes here]!", and then post in Advanced Topics.

Things like this are hard to explain in a definite way. Use your common sense, and think - is it just a problem that you can't fix? That goes in All About Scratch.

Hacking the scratch source, that's an advanced topic.
Or anything having to do with the source code.
Also other programming languages beyond scratch belongs in advanced topics.
Those are a few things that come to mind.

Basically advanced things available in Scratch. Like arrays, features that you have found, stuff the new users wouldn't know about.

A problem with saying that is I've seen people asking how to make the sprite change costumes... So saying stuff that new users wouldn't know about kinda means a lot... I don't think you could say new users "understand" either because the person could have no knowledge of computers...

The line between the two topics is not well defined.   It's a judgment call.  Some topics are pretty easy to tell - if you want to discuss integrating Python with Scratch using the remote communication features - that's pretty clearly an advanced topic.  And if you want to know how to change the background of the stage using messages, that's probably something for All About Scratch. 

Just thinking about it now, maybe the line should be something like this:

Advanced Topics:
   * Extensions of Scratch - such as Chirp or BYOB
   * Integrating Scratch with other Software
   * Optimizing Scratch Projects
   * Scratch Projects that use Advanced Math or Computer Science techniques
     (High School or College level)
 
All About Scratch
   * Everything else (unless it deals with Sensor Boards or Show and Tell or
     one of the other categories)

That's just my quick from-the-hip shot at coming up with a definition...I'm sure other people will have other ideas...let's hear them!

One thing I am pretty sure of....*this* topic is not Advanced.  Moving it to All About Scratch
