It sounds like the file hasn't saved properly  hmm

Have you got another saved version of the project? You could work on that?

I got the same thing with a project I spent a while on, It's usually caused by exiting Scratch while a projects is still saving..

Yes, I do have another saved version, but...the old one is 405kb, and the current one is roughly 1300kb......it'll take too long.

You should save frequently and on 2 saves, so if one is damaged, open the next one and save it over the damaged one.

If you can, upload it somewhere so we can download it and see if we can get it to work. Or are you trying to open a file made in a new version of scratch in an older version of scratch?

Re: Damaged file been working it for weeks as a school project....

well I can see you worked hard on it for about a month. 10/28/2009 - 11/22/2009.

it does seem to be missing something at the top of the file probably the "key" but I can't edit scratch files outside of scratch. It also stops loading just before halfway

Whoa...it's damaged for me. Have you closed scratch when it was saving? That is the biggest cause of a damaged file.

Almost the same thing happened to me. Turns out my USB got a virus and destroyed the file.

Not very likely that my USB got a virus. None of my other files got destroyed.

Re: Damaged file been working it for weeks as a school project....

So did you save it to a USB ?

If you did that could be the reason why.

When removing the USB did you click "safely remove"?, if not any files that where saved to it since the USB was pluged in can be damaged.

Did you have the project close before removing it?, any open applications can be harmed if removed while open

The USB may not have been put in properly or was disloged during the save.

Re: Damaged file been working it for weeks as a school project....

I know how to get the "bad header" error, open it in notepad and save it. This is because some of scratch's code isn't reconised by notepad so it converts it even if you don't do anything.
