Re: My own sharing server

On the Mac, you drag the picture from the browser to the desktop or to a folder, where it will end up as a .gif or .jpg file.  You can then use that file as a costume with the "import" button.

Re: My own sharing server

When will I be able to directly embed Scratch projects? The current version I am using (1.2.1) can only embed as a link when I try and incorporate the Scratch projects in my websites. How can I embed the Scratch window (i.e. not just a link) into my websites?

I don't know if I just repeated myself a few times there but I think you get the idea. Scratch is useful but I can only use it in my websites by using a screen recording program to make a video of it so the interactive functions are lost and the quality tends to be reduced.

Re: My own sharing server

There was a thread some time ago about how to set up a web server to provide the same ability to deliver scratch programs as the MIT scratch web site.  I managed to set up a page that works fairly well, following those instructions, but I don't recall which thread it was.

Re: My own sharing server

kitty3: what do you mean with "directly embed"? Currently many people have been able to embed their projects by copying and pasting the HTML code provided in each project page. For example: http://scratchon.blogspot.com/

Re: My own sharing server

Did someone succeed at installing ScratchR platforn on his own sharing server? If so, could you please let me know which Apache, PHP, MySQL version you used? I tried on several different servers and on every server I got some kind of error

For example, when installed on a server with Apache 2.2.3, PHP 5.2.0, MySQL 5.0.27, I get the following output:

"Notice: Undefined index: controller in C:\Programmi\EasyPHP 2.0b1\www\scratch\cake\dispatcher.php on line 152

So, can you help me? Did you install the server? Which configuration do you use?

Re: My own sharing server

Good idea Bingo_324, but as a student and Scratch user, I doubt that either me or my classmates really care about server detection.

i didn't know you had to pay for mySQL.

Good question. There are two answers.

1. You can embed your project into another website by following these guidelines.

2. This website is powered by the ScratchR Platform which you will be able to download and run it on your own web server.

By the way, do you want to run your own server because of proxy issues in schools?

Thanks a lot for asking!

Re: My own sharing server

Instructors...

You should definitely consider embedding rather than running your own server...

If you are worried about plagerism, narrow down the student's project options. For example, make them only use certain variable names. This way, you are making it much harder for them to simply import others' sprites. Also, if the students manage to swap out the variable names, you at least know that they are gaining a deeper understanding of the Scratch GUI.
On top making plagerism harder, more narrow requirements will simulate the real world problems brought up by lots of people on the same team. And -lastbutnotleast- plagerism is often used when the plagerizer doesn't have a clue what they should create. Choosing these details for them adds excitement to the game-building process... They want to stretch the rules as much as possible, and plagerism won't even come to mind.

Re: My own sharing server

This is a message to the Scratch Team. Would someone be so kind to let me to know which configuration is used on the server that hosts the scratch site? I would like to try to install the scratchr server but until now I only experienced a lot of different problems. Would someone let me know which combination of Apache/PHP/MySQL is currently used so that I will succeed in installing it? Thanks a lot in advance!!!!

s_federici,

It looks like this is a musunderstanding...
I can't help you, sorry.

The scratchresources website is created me, not by gosox5555

The server at resources.scratchr.org is not "my" server. The Scratch team offered me to place my site on their server(s). I cannot see any PHP, MySQL or any other properties.

I am also not running the ScratchR platform - the (very sluggish) code behind scratchresources is fully written by me - currently even not using any MySQL databases. I am working on this, though. The layout is almost the same, only because i used the background images from this site.
