If you've used other sites ex. Roblox, then you should know the friend system here is different.

When you add someone as a friend, they appear on your friends list and not theirs (unless they add you). No one can make you remove themselfs off your friend list.

Also, they get a message saying you added them. When they add you, you get that same message.
Friending someone is a great way to have a link to their page, and have their newest project show up on the "My Friends Latest Projects" on the Scratch Homepage.

However, messages don't show up on the Scratch forums or any place with info.scratch.mit.edu in the beginning.
