How to make animated avatar

I have made a REALLY good animated avatar on scratch but when I save the image and make it my avatar, It's not ANIMATED. Is there any way that I can make it my ANIMATED avatar?   *desperate*  sad

Re: How to make animated avatar

Try loading all of the frames onto a gif making program, and then compiling them into the animation. Save the completed gif and make it your Scratch picture.

Re: How to make animated avatar

Hi HypahLight, you'll need to export all the images associated with the sprite and then use them in an image editing program that is capable of creating animated GIF files. I recommend GIMP (it's a free download), and there a multiple tutorials online that will show you how to create an animated GIF file in GIMP.  smile

[EDIT]: It seems that illusionist has beaten me in providing the answer  lol

What do you mean by "parts"? Do you mean you have trouble importing and animating the frames in the image editor?

Re: How to make animated avatar

It really depends on the image editor you are using. Generally speaking, each frame will be in its own layer. If you are using GIMP, here's a nice breakdown of how to create a GIF animation: http://www.csb.yale.edu/userguides/image/moviemaker/anim_gif.html

Re: How to make animated avatar

Hmm, I don't use gimp, but I from looking at it, I think there should be an animation option.

I'll try and find out for you now  smile

Edit: This appears to be a gimp animation tutorial, http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Simple_Animations/. Hopefully it can help a bit  smile

You just have to copy and paste.  smile  I don't know if you noticed, but I had edited my previous post and added a link to it, it tells you how to get the image into a new frame in GIMP.

Here's another tutorial. It doesn't show you how to copy & paste frames, but the video link in there should give you a more clearer idea of animating GIF images in GIMP.

You'll need to open each frame in a different GIMP window - in other words, open all the frames in GIMP.

- In the second frame window, go to the menu bar, go to Edit->Copy. Then go the the first frame window, go to the menu bar, go to Edit->Paste.
- In the third frame window, go to the menu bar, go to Edit->Copy. Then go the the first frame window, go to the menu bar, go to Edit->Paste.

You pretty much repeat that process with all the frames. Hopefully you get the idea now.  smile

Wait! (i am also nitehaunt)  When I try to copy the image from my desktop, then paste it, it makes a different layer (a new one) and then locks me onto that layer----so, then i delete it.

It's supposed to do that. ^^ By default, you get locked onto the uppermost frame/layer (which, in your case, would be the layer you just pasted).

I'm assuming you want to switch between frames/layers, yes? To switch between frames, go into the layer dialogue by going into the menu bar, clicking dialogue, and then clicking Layer. A small window should open up with a list of all the different layers. You may notice an eye next to each layer - if you want to edit one particular layer but other layers are on top of it, simply click the eyes of those upper layers you do not want to edit (meaning the eye shouldn't show except next to the layer you want to edit); re-click the eye button to show the layers again when you are done.

Here's a rundown of how to use the layer dialogue: http://www.scratch.mit.edu/ext/youtube/?v=jPUkTY7aHhQ
